Not A Game Changer: Hands-On Impressions

The biggest star in console gaming history making his debut on phones is undoubtedly a big deal, but don’t expect a transformative (or even noteworthy) experience from Mario’s first iPhone adventure. During my lunch break today, I traveled to the Mall of America to check out the Super Mario Run demo that is currently only available in Apple Stores.
An Apple employee told me that the demo is playing on practically every tablet and phone in the store, so you shouldn’t have any troubles getting your hands on it if you want to check it out for yourself. I decided to play it on the new iPhone 7 Plus, which may have sold me more on the hardware than the game.

Right off the bat, it’s strange to see Mario’s face on an iPhone app. The times are certainly changing, and we’ll soon see Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem here as well.

The game booted up within a matter of seconds, and offers three avenues of play: World Tour, which is a campaign comprised of six worlds, each offering four levels, Toad Rally, a high-score competition presumably through the same stages, and Kingdom Builder, where you can exchange coins build houses and other bonuses.

Dragon Quest Heroes II Coming To North America

Square Enix has announced that it's bringing Dragon Quest Heroes II to North America in 2017. The Dynasty Warriors-style action game was released in Japan earlier this year, but we'll have to wait a bit longer before we can play it on PlayStation 4.

The game, which is a sequel to (deep breath) Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below, features two all-new playable heroes, Lazarel and Teresa. They have to battle monsters in Accordia to restore peace to the land. It's essentially an excuse to slay thousands of monsters, either alone or in an online party of up to four players.

You can check out the game's opening cinematic below.

New Story Trailer Sets The Stage For Allied Invasion Of Sicily

After finishing up his role in the Allies' North African Campaign in Tunisia, Lt. Karl Fairburne heads to nearby Sicily to begin the story of Sniper Elite 4.

A new story trailer released today provides some context. Sicily was a strategically crucial launch point for the Allies' Italian Campaign, which sought to unseat dictator and German ally Benito Mussolini. By linking up with Italian anti-Mussolini fighters in Sicily, Fairburne's job will be to help sow seeds of rebellion and prepare the way for the southern Allied invasion of mainland Europe.

You can watch the full story trailer below.
