Two Trailers For The Price Of One

Even with a name like Daylight, Zombie Studios upcoming procedurally-generated survival horror title is surprisingly dark. That must be why the the developer feels it needs to show us more of the game with two new trailers.

The following trailers showcase the game's hospital environment and a lurking shadow that seems to be following the player throughout the game. Check out the two new trailers below:

Darkest Dungeon Is An RPG Equal Measures XCOM And Lovecraft

Darkest Dungeon Is An RPG Equal Measures XCOM And Lovecraft

Wandering through the Indie Megabooth is one of the most delightful experiences of attending PAX, because you never know what you'll stumble across. I've been fortunate enough to find a number of gems in the small, closely placed booths. One of the best finds of PAX East 2014 was Darkest Dungeon.

I had been watching Red Hook's Kickstarter effort to fund the title with interest. The art style is one of most visually striking I've seen in quite a while. The character designs remind me of woodcuts, and the minimalist approach to animation works extremely well as characters strike dramatic poses that fit the turn-based nature of play.

What sets Darkest Dungeon apart from other turn-based RPGs is its focus on the mental health of the heroes. For our demo, we were given a four-person party consisting of a crusader (a traditional fighter), a highway man (knife and gun toting rogue), a plague doctor (uses poisons on foes), and a vestal (a mace-wielding cleric).

Surviving Earned Me A Round Of Applause

Surviving Earned Me A Round Of Applause

Day 18: Our radio is repaired, and we should have just enough food to hold out for rescue. I think a ship will be by to pick us up in seven days, but with the aggressive wildlife closing in, our dog ill, and my partner starting to lose hope, it's going to be close.

Things were bad when we crashed on this rock. Days are short, and we have a limited amount of time each day to gather firewood, hunt, make medicine, cook, and keep spirits up. Our morale officer ran off after day four. Coward. We never saw her again.

I pushed our doctor hard to make enough medicine to hold us out. The stress got to him, though. I think it was on day seven we woke up to find he had run off. Never saw him again either, but he did his job. Good riddance and more food for us.

DrinkBox Studios Announces Severed

DrinkBox Studios – makers of Guacamelee! and About a Blob – has announced its new project for spring 2015 : A first-person title called Severed.

The game features gesture-based combat and environmental interaction. The story revolves around a heroine navigating an unusual world filled with secrets (why did she wake up missing an arm), enemies, and dungeons, and all this can be tackled in a non-linear fashion.

DrinkBox Studios hasn't officially named platforms for Severed, although Destructoid reports that it will hit mobile platforms and that the studio is open to putting the game on any system that supports motion or touch controls.
