Joining The Trap Team – Hands-On With The New Skylanders

Joining The Trap Team – Hands-On With The New Skylanders

I’ve been playing Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure since the toy-based series debuted in 2011. It’s one of the few franchises that I feel comfortable sharing with my kids, and it’s good enough to the point where I’ll pop it in and play even if they’re out of town. For research, of course. Reiner wrote about the newest entry, Trap Team, extensively not too long ago, but I got to play it myself for the first time today.

The demo took place in a sewer level, filled with suspicious-looking green rivers and conveniently placed rafts. I got to solve a few puzzles, including one where I pulled levers to help guide a ball of energy from several stations to its ice-melting goal. Another was a slightly new take on the series’ familiar lock-picking game, where I flung a poor little ball of goo around a 2D box, drenching the poor soul in water at one point to extinguish flames.

The stars of the game are clearly the biggest draw here, however, and I got to play as several new Trap Team characters. Two of them stuck out in particular.

Beautiful New Entwined Screens Released

Following the E3 trailer and surprise release of indie title Entwined, Sony has released new screenshots and art for the unique, beautiful action-arcade game.

Entwined was one of the pleasant surprises of Sony’s E3 press conference. Even as it was being revealed for the first time, developer Pixelopus announced it would be available for purchase on the PS4’s PSN on the same day.

Entwined tells the story of two lovers, depicted abstractly as a bird and a fish, who can’t be together. The player controls each lover simultaneously with either control stick as they attempt to reunite over the course of nine lifetimes. When the two souls do unite they transform into a dragon, creating new gameplay opportunities.

Five Striking Dragon Age: Inquisition Features

about X hours ago from

Dragon Age fans have been waiting to take on the role of Inquisitor and save Thedas. At E3, BioWare showed off an extended demo exploring the environments and characters, showing how far your role as Inquisitor reaches. Here are the five parts that we found most compelling.

The Vast World

Dragon Age II received its fair share of criticism for overused environments; the world didn’t feel as impressive as Dragon Age: Origins. That's changing with Inquisition. The area we saw in our live demo alone is bigger than the entirety Dragon Age: Origins, according to creative director Mike Laidlaw. He says this is the biggest Dragon Age game yet. What’s striking is how much the war impacts the land and lets you see the conflict. NPCs react to what’s going on, and everything is in ruins. Even the enemies you fight and their relative population are influenced by how you play. For example, say you eliminate a lot of bears in one area. If you go back, the population dwindles.  Looking in the distance, the area feels grand and never-ending, from mountains to waterfalls. Fortunately, BioWare a mount system helps you to navigate it. We saw a horse, but Laidlaw says Inquisition has numerous mounts to find and collect.

In an attempt to breathe new life into its classic franchise, Sega is rebooting the famed hedgehog with Sonic Boom. Despite a rocky decade, Sonic remains one of the most iconic characters in video game history.

This new trailer details story information and provides a few glimpses of gameplay. While Eggman is returning to some capacity, it looks as though a more pronounced and ancient evil will be taking the mantle of main antagonist this time around.

Sonic Boom will bring new mechanics and characters to supplement the 3D platforming gameplay when it releases this November. Be sure to look at our recent preview on the game and learn about Sticks, the newest character on Sonic's team.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is exactly that – a title that is nestled between Borderlands 1 and 2. New screens for the game show off some of the environments, as well as the title in action.

The game features four hunters from the previous titles, and contains all the weapons and loot you've come to expect from the series.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel comes out on October 14 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Ten Things You Need To Know About Assassin’s Creed Unity

Ten Things You Need To Know About Assassin’s Creed Unity

One of the fun surprises of Monday’s press conferences was the opportunity to see two distinct demos of Assassin’s Creed Unity in action. Today, I was shown a guided tour of each, and was able to glean a number of features that set the new game apart, both from previous AC entries, and from action games built for older generation consoles.

It’s Truly New-Gen

After seeing Unity in action, it’s easy to understand why the game is heading exclusively to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Members of the development team explained that the core team for Unity got started right after the completion of Brotherhood in late 2010. From a completely reworked technical engine and visuals to a number of brand new features in navigation, combat, multiplayer, and mission structure, it’s a game that feels new-gen down to its DNA.

A Conversation For The Ages – Talking Dragon Age: Inquisition

A Conversation For The Ages – Talking Dragon Age: Inquisition

A lot of stories will give you a single opinion on Dragon Age: Inquisition, but this story is givein you two opinions for the price of one. However, when it comes to BioWare’s upcoming fantasy RPG, those opinions might be fairly similar.

Ben: Hey Kim, we both just walked out of the Dragon Age demo, and I don’t know about you, but I felt like high fiving after that.

Kim: I absolutely felt the same. I was worried that going for a larger world might hinder other aspects, but whoa...that felt like a real, living world. I like how it was torn up due to the war, too, so it fit with the storyline. What’d you think about the environments?

WWE 2K15 New-Gen First Details

WWE 2K15 New-Gen First Details

Last year's WWE 2K14 was too far along when 2K Games took on the license from THQ for it to make many big changes, but now there's no holding back.

WWE 2K15 will be the new-gen debut of the series on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (in addition to PS3 and 360). Developer Visual Concepts is taking on a much bigger role this time around alongside longtime developer Yukes. Visual Concepts is incorporating its impressive scanning tech made famous in its NBA 2K games. The team has hounded WWE's roster of wrestlers during their nonstop travel schedule and already has 90 percent of the in-game roster scanned in. Interestingly, I saw a photo of Hulk Hogan getting scanned. While a classic version of him is in the game (alongside announced wrestlers John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, and Cesaro), it's unclear what role today's older Hulk would serve. Maybe he shows up for a hosting role as he did for the recent Wrestlemania XXX.
