A Candid Conversation About NBA Live 15

about X hours ago from

NBA Live executive producer Sean O’Brien is a realist. While he and the rest of the team at EA Tiburon’s are determined to put EA’s basketball sim back on the map as a destination experience for hoops fans, he knew going into to the project that it would take several years before the game would have a chance to stand alongside NBA 2K, which has been going strong uninterrupted for more than a decade. While NBA Live 14 was hammered pretty hard by game reviewers, that didn’t stop the developers from marching steadily ahead with their vision for the future of basketball games. In a candid conversation at GI headquarters, O’Brien opened up about the problems the developers faced last year, the strategies the team is putting into place to improve the basketball series with Live 15, and how the leadership change at EA is affecting game development.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's Moon Shot

As the title implies, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel explores the area between the first two games in the series; taking players to Elpis, Pandora's moon. Here, even the laws of low gravity can't prevent you from having a good time.

The developers at 2K Australia use the moon's low gravity to their advantage, suiting the title's gameplay to floaty jumps. The game also introduces new weapons like a laser weapon and cryo gun, which can be seen in the second part of the game's four-part making of series.

Action Henk's Blazing Butt Slide

about X hours ago from

When you're an old, washed up action hero, getting back to the top fuels you – almost literally. Action Henk by Dutch developer RageSquid is a speed runner/platformer set in obstacle-filled levels challenging you to butt slide as far as you can.

You star as Henk, an old action figure who must race other toys for the best time through complex Toy Story-esque constructed levels. Your butt slide is your calling card, and it propels you forward. Going the distance and completing levels is all about timing your jumps and preserving your momentum to maximum effect. You can also use gadgets like a grappling hook to make your way. It's fast and addictive – imploring you to post your best time, compete against friends' ghost times, and keep coming back for more. It's a game of adrenaline, close calls, and the fun kind of frustration.

The game is currently in Steam Early Access for $9.99 (PC, Mac, and Linux), and its first update has added levels (now up to 25) and the extreme difficulty of Rainbow medals and also fixed some bugs and made other improvements. It can also be bought at the Humble Store.

NBA 2K15's Crew Mode Makes A Comeback For 360, PS3

After years of pining, NBA 2K fans finally have their beloved Crew mode back – at least for last-gen consoles

Yesterday on a Twitch livestream Visual Concepts revealed the return of the popular five-on-five online mode for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, complete with leaderboards. The Crew mode plays out on the official NBA-sized court with NBA rules, and allows teams to create custom jerseys. If you don't have a full roster of five players you can assign A.I. to man the missing positions. Prefer the smaller three-on-three blacktop matches? You can still play those as well.

Stay tuned in the coming days for more NBA 2K15 news.
