Managing An Empire Over Eons

about X hours ago from

Massive Chalice wears its XCOM love on its sleeve; everything from its tactical interface where deadly enemies hide behind a fog of war to its top level strategy that lets player accelerate through time while researching new tools feels reminiscent of Firaxis’ recent strategy masterpiece. Double Fine made no secret of its love for strategy when it raised $1.2 million during a Kickstarter for this game, but now that we've had a chance to kick its tires we’ve discovered that Massive Chalice may feel familiar in a lot of ways, but it’s still different enough to stand on it’s own.

The game begins when you are crowned the immortal emperor of a fledgling kingdom surrounded by an evil force called the Cadence, which is slowly eating away at your nation. Through a series of battles you push back against the Cadence. Fortunately, your army is a diverse collection of heroes with varying abilities. Hunters fight using giant crossbows, but can also enter stealth mode in order to scout ahead and get the drop on foes. Alchemists throw a variety of explosive flasks at enemies, damaging large groups and doing corrosive damage. And finally, Caberjacks are the heavy melee units who use massive battering rams to bludgeon their enemies into submission.

Watch The Order: 1886's Holiday Trailer, Featuring Silent Night

about X hours ago from

For the holidays, Ready at Dawn released a new trailer for The Order: 1886, featuring the song, "Silent Night."

The Order: 1886 is due out February 20, so it's nice to see some more footage before launch.

The trailer may have "Silent Night" playing, but what's going on in it is anything but. While it starts quiet, you soon see brutal punches, intense gunfire, and werewolves viciously attacking.

A Multinational Team Bands Together To Create Their Dream Project

about X hours ago from

Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are widely regarded as two of the best games of all time, but official 2D sequels have been few and far between recently – and usually relegated to the handheld space. That absence has spurred indie developers to co-opt the classic formula and make it their own. With its new title, Ori and the Blind Forest, Moon Studios seeks to deliver a Metroid-like experience with a mix of pixel-perfect platforming à la Super Meat Boy and the crisp visuals of Studio Ghibli’s animated films. It sounds like a powerful cocktail that may appeal to -millions of gamers, and Microsoft has already bet big on this new IP. But can a ragtag team of developers from around the world – many of whom have never met – overcome its unique development challenges and create an instant classic?

Latest Trailer Highlights Combat And Characters

about X hours ago from

Final Fantasy Type-0 originally released on PSP in Japan several years ago. Though it may not be shrouded in the same fog of mystery as a brand new entry in the series, this look at the combat in the remastered new-gen version of the game is still pretty cool.

The trailer has plenty of battle scenes (along with a few character conversations), highlighting the action you can expect to see from the title when it releases in March for PS4 and Xbox One.

High Speed Chases Abound In Battlefield: Hardline Karma Trailer

about X hours ago from

Inspired by great TV crime dramas, Visceral Games' upcoming take on the Battlefield license takes players into the life of a detective who apparently ends up in a lot of shootouts and explosive car chases.

I'm a big sucker for cop shows/movies that feature a lot of explosive action, cops that complain about their job, and verbally abusive sergeants. If you're a fan of movies like Bad Boys (one of the greatest films ever made), then Battlefield: Hardline might be the kind of game you would like to meet in a dark alley.

Meet The Funkified Son Of Zeus In Funk Of Titans

If you combine ‘70s blaxploitation films with ancient Greek mythology and Super Mario Bros. you’d have a frankensteinian beast called Funk of Titans. If that sounds up your bag or down your trunk (I'm not good with '70s slang) then you'll be able to get your hands on this unique indie title next month.

A Crowd of Monsters first indie platformer, Funk of Titans will bring over 40 levels of funk music and men in skirts to your Xbox One on January 9. When a bunch of Pagan Titans challenges Zeus’ throne, the god summons his son Perseus to confront and defeat these Music Titans. Check out the trailer below.
