Id Software's Marty Stratton Teases Building Co-op Campaigns With Doom's SnapMap

about X hours ago from

After watching a people play Doom multiplayer for the first time at QuakeCon, an energetic Marty Stratton, id Software's executive producer, sat down to talk to me about the state of development for this 2016 release. Stratton wouldn't go into specifics about key components that haven't been discussed yet, stating id wants to keep a few more "surprises" under lock and key until closer to launch, but did provide further details about multiplayer and the bloody executions.

You showed off a significant chunk of single player at E3, and a small tease of multiplayer here at QuakeCon. Where are you at in production? We're doing really well. Saying we're coming out spring of next year is a big deal for us because it focuses us on the home stretch. We have the alpha test for multiplayer coming up, which is super exciting because it means more people are getting their hands on the game. We're confident in the way it plays. [QuakeCon] is a great opportunity for us to get broader feedback. We do focus testing in the office, but to get a couple thousand people's hands on it here and be able to react to stuff is helpful. Single player is coming along great. SnapMap is super fun. We're feeling confident.

Developer League of Geeks has announced Armello will release on September 1 of this year. After July 31, this title will disappear from Steam Early Access until its official release two months later.

Armello, a digital board game, features playable animal heroes vying to be king or queen of the land. Each of the characters possesses different strengths and weaknesses, leaving some better suited to stealth, defense, or offense. To add another wave of complexity, the boards are procedurally generated. More randomness arises in the action of the current king, a lion suffering from madness. For more details, check out our pre-alpha preview.

League of Geeks unveiled two new characters today: Zosha the female rat and Barnaby the male rabbit. Zosha fights best in the night, as she enters into stealth after each sunset. Although her low health weakens her effectiveness in head-to-head battles, her high fight power offers great potential for surprise attacks. Barnaby, on the other hand, is more balanced. Thanks to his ability to generate the perfect item when necessary, players can use him in a variety of ways.
