Fight Robotic Dragons And Dinosaurs In Guerrilla's Debut Screens

The makers of Killzone over at Guerrilla Games surprised Sony’s audience on Monday with the announcement of Horizon Zero Dawn, a new action role-playing game with a stunning post-apocalyptic setting.

Horizon stars Aloy, a young woman from a tribal heritage living in a world many centuries after the fall of civilization. Her vibrant natural surroundings are filled with ancient ruins overgrown with plants, and humans have regressed to a primitive and less technological state of life. Amid the detritus of a fallen society, humans share the world with massive robotic creatures of many shapes and forms.

Aloy hunts these creatures, but we’re told that Horizon is about much more than the deep combat system seen in the game’s first video trailer. In addition, Guerrilla describes the game to be filled with a vast landscape of forests, mountains, and ancient ruins that all are affected by a constantly shifting weather and day/night cycle.

Getting Reacquainted With Faith: Hands-On With Mirror's Edge Catalyst

about X hours ago from

After a long hiatus, Mirror's Edge is finally back. We went hands-on with Mirror's Edge catalyst to learn more about how this prequel builds on its predecessor and takes the franchise in a new direction.

Before EA gave us the controller, they walked us through their plan for this long-anticipated sequel to the cult classic free-running game. DICE says it wanted Catalyst to preserve the style of the original game while transitioning to an open world, expanding the universe lore, and taking the gameplay in new directions.

Taking place years before the original, Mirror's Edge Catalyst tells the story of Faith's rise from a young runner to a catalyst for change in the futuristic city of Glass. Seemingly a peaceful utopia on the outside, Glass is actually the home to an oppressive regime that stymies personal freedom in the name of public order. The central villain responsible for this current state of the city is Gabriel Kruger, the CEO of the Kruger conglomerate that polices the city. In the shadow of this totalitarian regime, two rival factions have arisen. First is the runners, a group of rogue couriers that Kruger sometimes turns a blind eye to because he occasionally uses them to his own end. Second is a terrorist outfit that stands in firm opposition to Kruger.

Five Things We Learned Playing Star Wars Battlefront

about X hours ago from

Since its announcement last year, fans have been abuzz about Star Wars Battlefront. Many questions have dominated the conversations online about the direction of the franchise. How close to the original Pandemic games would new developer DICE stay? Would the game have the depth of DICE's flagship Battlefield franchise or skew more mainstream? We finally got our hands on the high-profile shooter at the EA booth to gain a better understanding of what Battlefront is all about. Here are the five things that stood out most to us.

Battlefront Is Not A Battlefield CloneIt only takes a few minutes of play to realize that Battlefront is a much different experience than its modern military cousin. Spotting, teammate revives, ammo drops, and hardcore mode have been left behind. The same goes with four-player squad play and classes, but Battlefront does include a way to partner with one other player. Like Medal of Honor Warfighter's fireteams, players can respawn on their buddy. While you are moving across the battlefield, your partner is highlighted in yellow.

Since blasters don't need extra ammo, DICE replaced it with a cooldown to the weapons if you shoot continuously for too long. If a weapon overheats, it initiates an active reload system not unlike Gears of War. Timing your "reload" correctly can get your weapon ready for battles much quicker.

about X hours ago from

Trials Fusion: Awesome Level Max will be the sixth DLC for Ubisoft’s Trials Fusion game and, judging by the screenshots below, will never be accused of taking itself too seriously. New screenshots show off courses that will be coming in the newly announced DLC.

The unicorn stole the show at E3, but it is only half of what Awesome Level Max has to offer. The DLC features both the Awesome Adventure experience and the RedLynx vs All-Stars collection. The Awesome Adventure casts players as a unicorn-riding cat and tells a story spread across eight tracks. The RedLynx vs All-Stars collection contains a more traditional Trials Fusion experience and will include new courses created by both the developer RedLynx and community members.

The gallery below shows what players can expect to see in the Trials Fusion: Awesome Level Max DLC, but be sure to check out the E3 trailer here as well for more of that fire-breathing unicorn.
