Crytek Kicks Off Developer Diary Series

about X hours ago from

Crytek has started a new dev diary series for their upcoming VR game, The Climb. The first episode takes a deep dive into how the game got started as a unique rock climbing simulator.

The video shows how the simple concept of looking where you want to grab in real-life rock climbing inspired the idea of a VR game that emulates that experience. Game Boy Classic Final Fantasy Adventure Out Today On Mobile As Adventures Of Mana

Way back in the Game Boy era, Square Enix already knew it had something special in the Final Fantasy brand. The publisher opted to localize a number of games for a western audience, but adapted names to connect them to its popular RPG franchise.

In addition to the Final Fantasy Legend games (actually part of the SaGa series), there was the Zelda-like Final Fantasy Adventure. Today, it’s been re-released under a new name, Adventures of Mana (by way of a 2003 Game Boy Advance re-release called Sword of Mana).

Nintendo Outlines Twilight Princess HD Tweaks For New And Returning Players

Nintendo Outlines Twilight Princess HD Tweaks For New And Returning Players

Chances are, if you're a fan of Nintendo's games you've probably already played through The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Whether you're returning to the game or checking it out for the first time, the upcoming HD version of the game on Wii U has several tweaks and additions designed to pull you into the world.

Returning players can start their game in hero mode, which adds a few punishing twists. Most notably, Link takes twice as much damage – which hurts even more considering that the mode also prevents health-refilling hearts from dropping, too. Link's wallet capacity has been increased, which is good; when he opens a chest containing rupees and his wallet is full, those extra rupees are now gone forever.

There's a new item in Twilight Princess HD, the ghost lantern. It glows when it's near a Poe, which should make one of the game's quests a little less frustrating. Other quality-of-life changes include having the map and inventory accessible on the GamePad's touchscreen, and the ability to turn into Link's wolf form with a single tap of the stylus. If you're in a household where TV time is at a premium, you can also play the game off-screen on the GamePad.

The Culling Is The Hunger Games With Lots More Blood

In The Culling, you don’t get voted off the island. You get shipped off it… probably in pieces.

Building on the Battle Royale and Hunger Games concept that is beginning to permeate the gaming world in titles like H1Z1, The Culling is a tongue-in-cheek fight to the death. You’ll have time to get your bearings and gather supplies, and then it’s time to kill or be killed.

Heart Machine Talks Difficulty And Not Being A Roguelike

about X hours ago from

In the world of 2D indie games, the roguelike is a popular genre. Randomized levels lead to new experiences every time you play, and the looming threat of losing all your progress at any moment is a powerful motivator. It makes games equal parts intense, rewarding, and incredibly frustrating. Games with comparable art styles and overhead perspectives like Nuclear Throne and the upcoming Below live in that genre, and it's understandable that Hyper Light Drifter would be compared to those games. When I first read of Hyper Light Drifter's announcement, I assumed it was a roguelike because it reminded me of those games. Hyper Light Drifter is not a roguelike, but the team at Heart Machine did toy with the idea for some of its initial prototypes.

Assassin's Creed Identity Announced, Coming Later This Month

about X hours ago from

Ubisoft has formally announced Assassin's Creed Identity, the franchise's first action-RPG. The game will be coming exclusively to iOS on February 25.

After its soft-release in New Zealand and Australia in 2014, Identity will finally be launching worldwide this month. The game returns the series to the Italian Renaissance, and players can revisit the historic settings of Florence and Rome as they work to become a master assassin.

Players will start by creating and customizing their own Assassin in Identity, choosing from the four classes of Berserker, Shadow Blade, Trickster, and Thief. Embarking on various story missions and quests will bring you closer to solving "The Mystery of The Crows" and learning more about the First Civilization.
