WayForward's Shantae: Half-Genie Hero was successfully Kickstarted back in September of 2013, and a portion of the game is currently in the hands of backers.

You can see some gameplay from the game in the E3 trailer below, whose visuals surpass those of the recently released  Shantae and the Pirate's Curse for 3DS (read our review here).

To get your hands on the playable demo, which covers three levels of the game (with spoilers removed) you had to back at the early access tier, which was $45 or above.

Robot Pirates, Loki, And Cowboy Hats All In One Video

Two Swedish indie developers have teamed up to deliver a 40-minute gameplay video of both Zombie Vikings from Zoink Games and SteamWorld Heist from Image & Form. Klaus Lyngeled and Brjánn Sigurgeirsson respectively are the leads of these games, and they took the time to visit each other’s’ offices (which are apparently just a ferry ride away from one another). Take a look:

Sigurgeirsson walked Lyngeled through the same demo that was at PAX East this year, but with some insightful commentary that expands on our brief, previous look at the game. SteamWorld Heist is XCOM in two-dimensions, complete with a cover system and similar move-and-shoot tactics. Even the blue and orange movement lines are the same. Robots are also quite fond of hats according to Sigurgeirsson. Accurate players can even shoot the hats off their enemies and equip them. The details are still a bit nebulous, but there looks to be a large emphasis on this mechanic.

E3 Trailer Explores Society Following The Collapse Of Government

Hollowpoint, a game introduced late last year, has received a new trailer that dives into the backstory of the corporation-owned dystopia once known as Earth. Fifty years of war and poverty gave birth to a world ran entirely by mega-corporations. In the game (developed by Ruffian Games and published by Paradox Interactive), players will lead a team of mercenaries, called Hollowpoints, and carry out missions for whichever mega-corporation is willing to pay the most.

Hollowpoint blends the mechanics of a 2D side-scroller with 3D combat and targeting. In addition to single-player missions, the game will also give players the ability to team up with three other players for online four player co-op. Each and every mission is procedurally generated, with random objectives, layouts, and events, giving players plenty of unique opportunities to earn money, experience, and gear for their mercenary team.

Experience The Trials Of Mental Illness

Experience The Trials Of Mental Illness

Ninja Theory, the studio behind Heavenly Sword and the recent Devil May Cry reboot, are finally showing off more of its first independent game: Hellblade.

Hellblade puts you in third-person perspective as Celtic warrior Senua to explore a hellish world. Senua, left traumatized after a Viking invasion, is grappling with mental illness and you'll experience her hallucinations and delusions while she tries to triumph over it. To make sure the subject matter is being dealt with accurately and sensitively, Ninja Theory has consulted Paul Fletcher, a psychiatrist and professor from the University of Cambridge.

"Working with Ninja Theory has shown me the potential that gaming has for sharing in a character's experiences and engendering empathy in ways that go well beyond those offered by simple academic descriptions, Fletcher said in a recent press release. "Maybe this approach will contribute powerful new ways of challenging stigma."
