The developers at Obsidian Entertainment are no strangers to adapting successful, lore-filled universes. From KOTOR II to Fallout: New Vegas to even South Park: The Stick of Truth, they’ve consistently delivered new takes on existing and well-loved franchises. Pathfinder is the latest series to get the Obsidian treatment, with a mobile adaption of the deckbuilding Pathfinder Adventure Card Game coming March 29. We recently had some hands-on time with the game and played through its first (and free) scenario, Perils of the Lost Coast.

Fans of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game will feel right at home with Obsidian’s mobile title. It’s a very accurate port of the tabletop game’s experience. Players guide a party through various locales to corner and defeat what is essentially a boss character, taking down henchmen and picking up loot along the way. As items, weapon, armor, allies, and spells are picked up, they’re added to the character’s deck. These cards are then used to modify checks on character statistics like their dexterity, wisdom and strength. So, for example, a mace can be used to add an extra D6 to a character’s strength check against an enemy, and a lockpick might add a +1 boost to your character’s dexterity check.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that porting a game is a simple process. Especially as the prevalence of PlayStation 4 and Vita simultaneous releases with cross-buy and cross-save has grown, we often don’t consider that there are challenges in delivering the whole package.

We quite enjoyed Axiom Verge when it was released last year (our review), and many of us have been eagerly awaiting the Vita port. Unlike some unfortunate late-stage cancelations, Axiom Verge is still coming to the handheld, and when it does, it will be cross-buy with the PlayStation 4 version (though not cross-save right away).

Developer Thomas Happ has laid out the features that need to be polished and implemented. Those in the image below labeled critical are necessary prior to shipment.

Publisher Focus Home Interactive released a new trailer for the sci-fi action RPG The Technomancer. It features a close look at some of the remaining settlements and exotic lifeforms on the ravaged surface of Mars in the distant future.

The Technomancer, developed by the French studio Spiders, takes place hundreds of years after the colonization of Mars. A catastrophic event has all but destroyed life on the planet, leaving only a few satellite settlements standing.

First Full Screenshots Revealed For Styx: Shards Of Darkness

Styx: Master of Shadows is getting a sequel from Cyanide Studio, Styx: Shards of Darkness, and some early screenshots have been revealed.

The goblin assassin Styx will resume his role as the main character in Shards of Darkness, exploring a variety of lands throughout the game. These include the City of Thieves, built from the remains of shipwrecks, and the Elven city of Korangar, hidden high in the mountains. You can see them in high-res in the gallery below.

The new environments in the game are designed with an emphasis on verticality, making them larger and more open. According to Cyanide Studio, there is a lot of freedom in completing different mission objectives.

Codemasters Talks Hardcore Rally Racing In DiRT Rally Dev Diary

DiRT Rally has been out on PC for a few months, and Codemasters is now moving towards their console release of the game. In a brand new developer diary released today, the team discusses the gritty details of bringing back hardcore rallycross simulation.

In the video, which you can watch below, Codemasters goes over the process of making a focused and challenging rally racer in the vein of their earlier Colin McRae titles. It further shows how input from the DiRT community helped shape the core ideas behind the game, and how it tries to emulate the concentration and endurance that real rally racers need to win.
