Watch Overwatch's Jeff Kaplan Sit In Front Of A Fire And Open Presents

If you don't have a fireplace, and don't mind having a stranger in your home, you won't find a better video to warm your day than Overwatch's Yule Log Featuring Jeff Kaplan. For hours, Kaplan, the vice president of Blizzard Entertainment, has been sitting mostly motionless in a chair, resisting the urge to eat from a huge plate of cookies. At times, I thought the look on his face said "Should I make Overwatch 2?," "I shouldn't have eaten that last night," and "I regret agreeing to do this stream." Periodically, Kaplan will open a present. The present I saw him tear into contained a framed Overwatch image reading "I need healing."

Humorous yule log videos are all over the place. Heck, you can even watch a Game Informer-themed one featuring Kyle Hilliard below. If you want to watch Kaplan, which we highly recommend, click here. He's been going for a while now. Let's see how long he lasts.

What To Watch This Weekend: Looking Ahead To 2018

As with most industries in the United States, esports tend to slow down during the holiday season. That doesn't meant there's nothing going on (a cursory look at the front page of Twitch should always have something for most players to watch), but most major tournaments have wrapped up. But, in case you want to get back into 2018 with a crowded calendar to keep up with, we've compiled some of the most notable esports tournaments that will be going on through January, as the month has several strong outings you should make note of.

Things kick off on Thursday, January 3 with the Hi-Rez Expo, which will feature the Smite PC and Console World Championships. Players from across the world have worked their placements in this tournament, and the final placement matches will decide who will compete live in front of a crowded arena from Thursday to Sunday. (Stream / Schedule)

That weekend you can also catch the Kumite in Tennessee, which will feature several prominent fighting games like Street Fighter V, Injustice 2, and Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite. (Streams / Schedule)

World of Tanks Gets A Big Overhaul Next March

World of Tanks Gets A Big Overhaul Next March

World of Tanks is getting a "1.0" update in March 2018, one that will include a new graphics engine, HD maps, and new music.

The in-house CORE engine is the major game-changer, and will add a lot of life to the death-laden battlefields. In addition to new effects and models, look forward to responsive water and realistic terrain- it's a significant graphical revamp for the game.

25 maps are being overhauled to meet the demands of modern graphics, but the new sounds may be an even bigger draw. Dynamic music that changes based on the course of the action and what's happening on the field ranges from Gregorian chants to Arabic compositions, with each map being tied to its own atmospheric sounds.

Star Trek Bridge Crew Drops VR Requirement

Star Trek Bridge Crew Drops VR Requirement

Star Trek Bridge Crew, Ubisoft's virtual reality look into the crisis management of running a ship in Star Trek, can now be played without a VR headset.

The new update allows players to buck the VR headset requirement and mix and match with people who have one and people who don't. Much like earlier versions of the game, it can be played cross platform regardless of headset, so Vive, Oculus, and PlayStation VR users had always been able to play with each other. Now, Microsoft Mixed-Reality headset users and anyone with a TV screen that can run the game can also join in the fun.

As VR is no longer necessary for the game, the strain on the system allows for better graphics when not in VR mode. Developer Red Storm says high-end PCs using VR mode can also take advantage of these tweaks.
