Report: Google Working On Game Streaming Service

Google might be working on a cloud-based streaming service that would function similarly to things like PlayStation Now, according to a report from The Information.

The Information reports that Google has been floating the idea, codenamed Yeti, for two years now and is close to possible hardware. The service could also just stream to Chromecasts, which would offer a built-in install base of 55 million units already, according to the latest figures.

The idea behind the service would not differ from existing cloud-based avenues for gaming, where the hardware exists on the provider end and streams to the end user. Under the perfect conditions, the player doesn't notice a difference from physical hardware, or at least that is the ideal. Sony purchased streaming service Gaikai and leveraged their technology for PlayStation Now.

SWERY65 Relaunching The Good Life Crowdfunding Campaign On Kickstarter

SWERY65 Relaunching The Good Life Crowdfunding Campaign On Kickstarter

Last year, Hidetaka Suehiro, also known as SWERY65, tried to crowdfund a pet-based mystery RPG titled The Good Life, and ultimately did not succeed. Now, Swery's studio White Owls is relaunching the campaign on Kickstarter having reflected on its previous failure.

Swery's pitch was something of a whimsical Deadly Premonition that involved a town turning into cats (and optionally dogs, added later in the campaign) and trying to solve the mystery of why. The original crowdfunding campaign went up on Fig, which doubles as an investment platform, but didn't get very far. The project raised $682,864, fairly short of its $1.5 million goal.

"At that point,we decided to turn our temporary setback into a chance to make The Good Life better," Swery wrote. "We exhaustively analyzed and re-examined our campaign and initial plan, and made many critical adjustments."

Take-Two CEO On Red Dead Redemption 2: "I Am Confident In The Release Date"

Take-Two CEO On Red Dead Redemption 2:

During Take-Two's earnings call today, the specter of further delays to Red Dead Redemption 2 hung over the call, which CEO Strauss Zelnick was hoping to exorcise once and for all.

"The entire focus of this organisation is on delivering the highest quality entertainment experiences of any kind," Zelnick stated during the call. "More often than not, we feel proud that we're able to do that. All of our labels are focused on releasing a title when they reach that apex of effort and perfection. And in this instance, Rockstar Games felt more polish was required, and naturally we are in favour of that decision [delaying the game]. The date of October 26 is set, and I am confident that will be the release date. We are incredibly excited about it."

The game was originally announced in October 2016, the first scheduled release was set for the second half of 2017. It got delayed into the first half of 2018, then again to its apparently final release date of October 26. Zelnick said that he believes there are advantages to releasing games in the holiday season and does not want to waste the opportunity.

Take-Two Sees Profits Thanks To NBA 2K18 And Grand Theft Auto Online, Hints At New Game

Take-Two's quarterly financial call today struck a positive note for the company which swung toward profits once again, mostly thanks to Grand Theft Auto Online and strong sales of NBA 2K18, both in copies sold and microtransactions.

Grand Theft Auto V continues to be the gift that keeps giving for Take-Two, hitting the top ten of the NPD in the U.S. every month while constantly churning out revenue through its Grand Theft Auto online mode. The game is now the third best selling game of all time and guaranteeing people circulating into Grand Theft Auto Online.

Similarly, NBA 2K18 has sold eight million copies, despite controversy over its microtransactions and 2K's attempts to walk some of it back. Still, the vast majority of customers aren't too mad, because the game's microtransaction revenue is up 30% year over year, indicating that a lot of the players are choosing to engage with them.

Smite Is Getting An Anime-Themed Horde Mode

Over its lifecycle, Smite has released various "Adventures," new modes which throw the MOBA's cast of characters into RPGs, racing, and capture-the-flag games. The latest adventure turns Smite into a Horde-type mode. It also turns it into an anime.

The Legend of the Foxes takes the real Chinese historical figure-turned-fox-spirit Da Ji into an anime schoolgirl through the new "Senpai" skin. The mode will be a wave-based survival mode that will pit players against several enemies to fend off. The update will hit with the game's 5.2 update, the date of which has yet to be disclosed. Developer Hi-Rez Studios also confirmed players will be able to purchase the Senpai bundle and play Da Ji with the skin in regular matches.

While you wait for the update, you can watch a trailer (also anime-inspired) for the adventure below.
