Afghanistan's First Female Coders Develop Game To Combat Opium

The first Afghan female coders, a group of students in Western Herat, have developed a game centered around fighting Taliban-controlled opium poppy fields.

The game, called Fight Against Opium, is based on stories 20-year old coder Khatera Mohammadi's brother told her from his experience as a translator for U.S. soldiers in the Helmand province. "Each time he came back home, he would tell us about the poppy fields, the terrible mine blasts, battling opium traffickers and drugs," she said.

In FAO, players assume the role of an Afghan soldier trying to clear out the drugs in Helmand, which is based on actual events. With five lives, players have to watch out for dangerous elements such as land mines, drug traffickers, and enemies hiding in corn fields. Mohammadi and her colleagues hope the game, which took them a month to develop, will target children and raise awareness of the dangers of opium. The United Nations estimates that Afghanistan produces more opium than all other countries combined.

Dishonored 2 Graphic Novel Arrives Later This Month

Dishonored 2 is a fantastic stealth game that I often have an itch to return to. Whether I do or not, it's clear that I can still enjoy its engrossing world in other ways. Recently, publisher Titan Comics announced that it's releasing a comic book, titled Dishonored 2: The Peeress and the Price, and it's due to arrive very soon.

Priced $16.99 and set to release on February 20, this graphic novel takes places after the events of Dishonored 2. It centers on Corvo and Emily once again, as they face a new threat back in Dunwall. This project has an impressive team behind it, including writer Michael Moreci (Roche Limit, Suicide Squad: Secret Files), colors by Mattia Iacono (Dark Souls comic), and art by Andrea Olimpieri.

You can view more excerpts from the graphic novel by viewing the pages in the gallery below. You can pre-order the comic by heading here.

Sony Projects Enormous, Spectacular God Of War Trailer On NBA Basketball Court

Spectators during an NBA game in Oakland last night were treated to an unexpected display: a new God of War trailer was projected onto the large court, grabbing the whole stadium's attention.

Considering the large size of the court, it made for a pretty neat trailer with a wide, top-down view of Kratos and Atreus fighting off foes. You can take a look at the whole thing below:

[Update] Developer Confirms It Is Not Working On PS4 Version Of MGS HD Collection

[Update] Developer Confirms It Is Not Working On PS4 Version Of MGS HD Collection

Update 2/11/2018: Armature has confirmed to Dualshockers that it is not working on a current-gen version of the collection. "Unfortunately this was simply a typo by one of our web developers an is neither a leak nor indication that the MGS HD Collection is coming to PS4," Armature Studios head of a business development Jonathan Zamkoff told the outlet. "PS4" is no longer listed as a platform for the MGS HD Collection on the company's portfolio website.

Original Story: There's a somewhat irritating lack of Metal Gear games on modern consoles, but a recent listing could hint at that being rectified pretty soon.

Armature, the developer of the Vita version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, currently lists "PS4" under the list of platforms it's developed the port on. This might hint at a future announcement of a PS4 version of the game. However, mistakes like this can happen, so take this tidbit with a grain of salt.

London Spitfire Win Stage One Playoffs Of The Overwatch League

London Spitfire Win Stage One Playoffs Of The Overwatch League

Following three rounds of matches that spanned over a nearly 12-hour day of competition, the London Spitfire have emerged as the champions of Stage One of the Overwatch League. In the finals, they beat New York Excelsior in a reverse sweep.

The day kicked off with New York beating London 3-2. This knocked London Spitfire down to the #2 seed, and the Houston Outlaws earned the last spot in the playoffs to face London in the semi finals. It was there that London won 3-1, which meant they would have to face New York Excelsior once again. In that final match, London miraculously won 3-2 despite their weak start.

The stage playoffs don't have any impact on the regular season or the League playoffs, but they do offer a hefty cash prize to the top team of each stage. This includes $100,000 for the winner and $25,000 for the runner-up. The Overwatch League is now entering a week-and-a-half-break, but it's far from over. When it returns on February 21, a rematch of London and New York will take place on the first day of Stage Two.
