Take A Look At The Canceled Wii Shooter The Grinder In This Video

Although it was immensely successful, the Wii had a third-party problem (like most of Nintendo's consoles between after the Super Nintendo and before the Switch). High Voltage software emerged as one of the few third parties willing to explore the console, releasing the short-lived Conduit series for the motion-controlled platform. But they also had another game in the works, one which eventually fell by the wayside.

Over at Unseen64, Youtuber and "Game History Guy" Liam Robertson takes an in-depth look at the canceled Wii shooter. The Grinder was meant as a more intense tech demonstration of what the Wii could do, with large groups of monsters crowding the screen. Taking cues from Left 4 Dead, the game had four distinct characters taking on hordes of zombies. However, while the game was impressive for the console, High Voltage was developing the game using its own money, hoping a publisher would pick it up. That didn't happen, and the game was eventually canceled.

Still, it's always fascinating to see the history of games that could have been, even if they wouldn't have lit the world on fire. You can watch the full history of the game below.

Valkyria Chronicles Coming To Switch In Japan

At its Sega Fes event in Japan, Sega announced it's bringing Valkyria Chronicles to Switch.

The acclaimed strategy title, which first released on PlayStation 3 in 2008, has seen a recent resurgence, with the game coming to PlayStation 4 and PC in recent years. The Switch release will be through the Nintendo's eShop.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is of course also in the works, and players who buy the Switch version will receive a discount if they also buy the original game on the eShop. Though no word on whether either of these announcements will happen Stateside, it's likely Valkyria Chronicles will also make its way to Switch here as well.

See How Insomniac Made Spyro 2 Run On The Original PlayStation In This Video

With the recent announcement of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, it only makes sense for fans to dive back into the originals to see what made them so special in the first place. Youtuber Shesez is no different, as the latest episode of his Boundary Break series takes a look at the purple dragon's second adventure.

One thing Shesez points out is how well Insomniac used level-of-detail (a common technique still used today that changes the intricacy of geometry as players get closer or farther from it) to render its world, which is a nice trick to see in action. Other details include whether Spyro is actually inside the submarine during the underwater sequence, how the portals work from a technical perspective, and how section with floating heart-boats avoid getting so crowded.

These 'Fresh Prince' Controllers Aren't Official, But They Should Be

These 'Fresh Prince' Controllers Aren't Official, But They Should Be

With lots of limited-edition variants to coincide with games and places like Xbox Design Labs offering players a way to recolor them, custom controllers are all the rage. And while I usually stick to the de facto designs most of the time, this particular design might make me reconsider.

Third-party controller modding house Kustom Kontrollerz have come up with conceptual designs for controllers inspired by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, an iconic sitcom of the '90s starring Will Smith. The designs are intensely colorful, recalling the neon graffiti stylings of the original series, complete with a "Fresh" logo on the handles of the PS4 and Xbox renditions. You can see the full concept design below.
