Firewatch Creator Campo Santo Acquired By Valve

Firewatch development studio Campo Santo, which is currently working on first-person adventure game In the Valley of the Gods, has been acquired by Valve.

The news comes directly from Campo Santo, who posted a full announcement on their blog. Originally founded by members of Telltale studio, Campo Santo elaborated on why they decided to join up with a larger studio again. The company said they not only like video games, but the idea of making their customers happy. "From the day-to-day production of our last game, Firewatch, to the way we run the company, make merchandise, meet players at expos and shows, send out a quarterly literary journal, throw open-to-the-public game demos in the middle of an artificial forest—all of it is geared towards surprising, delighting, and entertaining the customers who have shared in our success," the studio said.

"In us," the studio goes on to say, "[Valve] found a group with unique experience and valuable, diverse perspectives. It quickly became an obvious match."

Battle Royale Game Darwin Project Is Now Free To Play On Steam

The Darwin Project, a battle royale game first revealed during last year's E3, has been part of Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview for a little while. However, due to the a lack of players, the game is now free-to-play on Steam.

“We’ve said from the start that we’re committed to creating a fresh and exciting experience for Darwin Project players and viewers," Creative Director Simon Darveau said via Steam. The team has added several features, including spectator interactions, but the player count still isn't where they'd like it to be. "Lately, members of our community have reported longer queue times and difficulty finding matches in lesser populated servers," Darveau said. "To bring in new players and maintain a level of activity that ensures players are able to get the most of out Darwin Project, we’ve decided to make it more accessible by removing the price tag.

While the change to free-to-play could bring in an influx of new players, those who've bought the game on Steam already won't be left out in the cold. They get a "Founder’s Pack containing 2 Legendary sets, 3 Legendary Axes, 3 Legendary Bows, a full jumpsuit collection, and 5 Fan Gifts," which will be added to buyers' inventory on Tuesday, April 24.

Latest Overwatch PTR Update Adds New Map, Replaces Hanzo's Scatter Arrow

Blizzard has been teasing big Hanzo changes were coming  as far back as February, and after lots of testing, the team is finally testing some changes with the public (in the PC Public Test Realm, anyway).

The biggest change is the removal of his Scatter Arrow ability, which fired one arrow that split into several on impact. This made him a terror around corners and often lead to some strange deaths. The new ability, Storm Arrows, has him firing six arrows with reduced damage in rapid succession. He also gains a horizontal leap he can perform mid-air. "The goal of these Hanzo changes is to allow him to have new options and maintain his high damage output, while removing the frustration of fighting against the old Scatter Arrow," the developer said in its notes.

The update also brings with it a new Escort map: Venice's Rialto area in Italy. "Rialto was home to Talon agent Antonio Bartalotti’s sprawling estate and the backdrop to the infamous 'Venice Incident,' a turning point for Overwatch and Talon," Blizzard says of the map.

Destiny 2's Next Expansion Will Make The Climb To Max Power Take Longer

Destiny 2's Next Expansion Will Make The Climb To Max Power Take Longer

As part of its updated roadmap for Destiny 2, Bungie officially unveiled its next expansion, Warmind, but didn't offer too many details about what, exactly, players could expect from it. This week, the developer gave us a better idea of what players can expect when they dive back into Destiny 2 on May 8 - from a leveling perspective, anyway.

Players will find that hitting the new power cap of 385 will be much tougher than getting to 305 or 335 (the caps in Destiny 2 and Curse of Osiris, respectively), that leveling as a whole will be slower. "One of the things we did when Destiny 2 launched was make the climb to the power cap fast and easy for everyone," said Destiny 2 senior designer Daniel Auchenpaugh. "It didn't matter who you were or what your play style was; the road to the cap was quick and accessible for everyone. The result was that achieving the cap felt less satisfying: It was easy, and there weren’t any activities that dared to require it."

Housemarque Announces Multiplayer Action Game Stormdivers

A few months ago, Housemarque announced it was leaving the old-school arcade shooters behind it made its name on behind due to poor sales. Today the company has announced the first game of its post-arcade shooter era: Stormdivers.

The teaser trailer below doesn't show the game in action, unfortunately. We get glimpses of a forested area populated by human encampments with a hint of futuristic tech (look at that crate!), a bolt of thunder, and fireballs seemingly pushing back against heavy winds.

Housemarque describes Stormdivers as a "High flying and heavy hitting multiplayer centric experience." Will it be a third-person shooter? Fighting game? Battle Royale? For now we can only guess. No platform or release date was announced.

PlatinumGames Wants To Port The Wonderful 101 To Switch, Talks About Bayonetta 3

At Reboot Develop 2018, a European game developer summit and conference held in Croatia, PlatinumGames' Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya held a talk where they discussed a few of their projects from the past and the future.

As reported by Eurogamer, the topic of Kamiya's last released game, The Wonderful 101 on the Wii U, came up. "We're going to knock the audience participation up a bit," Kamiya said. "They're still trying to negotiate with Nintendo whether a possible Wonderful 101 Switch release could happen but it always helps when the people in the audience at Reboot clap if they'd actually buy a Switch version of Wonderful 101. So anybody who would buy that, please clap," to the sound of the entire room applauding.

When the topic of Bayonetta 3 came up, Kamiya explained the game would be another linear progression action game, much like the previous titles. Still, he wants the team to up the ante on Bayonetta 3. "Bayonetta 2 was a fantastic title and they need to make sure this is leaps and bounds above that," Kamiya explained through the translator. "They know that the fans expect crazier, better, tighter action games. If they're going to put out Bayonetta 3, it's going to have to raise the bar."

Weekend Warrior – Gods Of Wars

It's a big week for games. God of War, Labo, and Yakuza 6 came out just to name a few, so it should be no surprise that we're digging into those big releases over the weekend.

Ben Hanson (@yozetty) – I’m planning on swinging by the store and picking up a copy of Labo tonight… but I don’t really know why… or if there will be any copies left? I think it’s an experience that I’d like to have in this wacky industry of ours. After that, I’m going to get to the stopping point (meeting Mimir) in God of War for our GI Game Club. Hmmm, let’s see… is there anything else? I’m going to maybe play some baseball on Sunday if all of our Minnesota snow melts? Okay, have a good weekend!

Kyle Hilliard (@KyleMHilliard) – I hit the stopping point in God of War on Wednesday for our Game Club, so I live in sidequest city now, avoiding the main story. I will also be doing lots of Labo-ing, the laundry, and seeing Isle of Dogs!

Monster Hunter World's Sakura From Street Fighter Armor Arrives On May 3

Monster Hunter World's Sakura From Street Fighter Armor Arrives On May 3

Capcom has announced that the Monster Hunter World armor that makes your hunter look like Street Fighter's Sakura will be available on May 3.

Much like the Ryu armor, this is a full armor set that makes you look like Sakura. You'll have to complete a three-part quest, this time against a Pink Rathian, to get the required materials to build the armor. Players will need a hunter rank of 12 or higher to get access to the quest.

There aren't many other details on the quest yet. The Ryu armor set was low rank, which probably indicates the Sakura armor will be similar. The Ryu armor quest also forced you into the armor set without your own items or weapons, which hopefully isn't the case again.
