Disney And Fox Vote For Major Buyout Of Assets

It's been tossed around for a few months now, but Disney and Fox have made it official: the latter is selling most of their entertainment assets to the former.

This ends the process Disney has been engaging in by bidding for the company's studios, facing off against rival Comcast who also provided a cash bid, having to up their bid, and finally Comcast withdrawing last week. Fox and Disney shareholders gathered this week to go ahead with the buyout, making Disney the largest film conglomerate in the world.

Both companies expect to complete the asset merger, costing $71.3 billion dollars, or one third of the GDP of Sudan, by the second half of 2019.

Return To London With These New Vampyr Difficulties

Return To London With These New Vampyr Difficulties

Vampyr is getting two new difficulty modes later this summer. The open-world vampire simulator will allow you to experience the story again (or for the first time) with a new hard mode and a story mode. Both of these are new difficulty options, where the game previously had none at launch.

The hard mode amps up the challenge of encounters and gives you fewer experience points for defeating enemies, forcing players to "embrace" (Vampyr's jargon for suckin' blood) more citizens in their playthrough. The story mode de-emphasizes combat greatly, allowing players to go through the story with much less difficulty. The original title had some odd spikes in challenge, and the combat could become very tedious, so the new mode is appealing for those wishing to replay the story to see all the many, many story permutations.

The update comes alongside more optimization for the game and a 25-percent off sale on Steam, so those waiting jump in can get to being a pale spooky man on the cheap now.

Japanese Rhythm Game Taiko No Tatsujin Getting An International Release

Taiko no Tatsujin is a long-running series of rhythm games from Bandai Namco, but the games have been almost exclusively released in Japan. That ends in November though, when the rest of the world will be getting their own versions of the drum-beating titles.

In a trailer released today, Bandai Namco showed off both Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session and Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun! for the PS4 and Switch, respectively. The Switch will use the Joy-Cons as drumsticks, and both games will feature head-to-head multiplayer.

The trailer has an almost overwhelming amount of charm, with animated characters bursting out of every corner. For those that like their games a little off-the-wall, this seems like a good one to keep an eye on.

Battlefield V's Grand Operations Will Be AWOL At Launch

Battlefield V's Grand Operations Will Be AWOL At Launch

Grand Operations, the mode that EA used to announced Battlefield V, will not be available in the game when it's released in October. The publisher revealed that detail in a new post highlighting the mode, which is an expanded version of the Operations mode introduced in Battlefield 1.

"Grand Operations is the ultimate multiplayer experience, designed to seamlessly showcase the maps and modes of Battlefield V," EA says. "Each Grand Operation presents a powerful narrative experience inspired by historical events. Shortly after launch, you will be able to take part in the first Grand Operation. In the months that follow, you’ll continue the fight across other unseen and unplayed battlefields of World War 2."

Matt Bertz played the mode at E3 last month, and he said it was a good time. At the same time, he was apprehensive about how much content would be available in the game at launch. He may have been talking about DICE's plan to roll out additional maps in the order the real-world events happened during World War II, but his point still stands.

Nintendo has revealed a third Labo kit, Vehicle, with an entirely new cardboard set and game on Twitter today with a release date in September.

The software from the video seems to involve driving around using the cardboard steering wheel and pedal. The steering wheel also has the function of using different levers to transform the vehicle into a plane or submarine, as well. The plane parts are seemingly very Pilotwings-like and, considering the recent Labo patch for Mario Kart 8, applying the steering wheel to that game is likely on the table.

Free IOS Collection Chronicles The Earliest History Of Mobile Games

The Strong museum, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Second Avenue Learning have collaborated on an iOS minigame collection titled The Original Mobile Games. This "new" title chronicles the history of handheld and dexterity-based games dating back over one hundred years and compiles them into a modern collection free on iOS.

RIT students spearheaded the project, garnering attention from gaming historians and later aid from the Second Avenue Learning production team. The collection launches with six titles, each complete with an introduction to give historical context, with new games being planned as add-ons at a later date.

"The initial launch features, among others, Pigs in Clover (players navigate four balls through a maze), Queen Mary (players place three “bouys” and then pilot the ship into the dock), and the Niagara Puzzle (players must send a stream of balls into the whirlpool at the bottom of the Falls)," The Strong museum writes. "These games were often themed around historic events. Queen Mary celebrates the 1934 launch of the popular ocean liner. The Niagara Puzzle even played a small part in changing history; it was used to smuggle maps, files, and compasses to British prisoners of war during World War II."
