New Baptiste Short Story Gives Insight Into Recent Overwatch Character

One of the criticisms of Overwatch that Blizzard has been trying to wrangle is that players are having a hard time really getting to know the characters beyond the initial set. Casual players who check in every so often will usually just see a new character and never really understand their deal. While I'm not sure Blizzard's solution of short stories on the internet will reach those casual players, for everyone else, it's time to dive deep into Baptiste's past.

The new short story, titled What You Left Behind is a look at Baptiste before his involvement within the game. It is sort of light novel-ish in that the story, written by Alyssa Wong, is occasionally peppered with new art from illustrator Arnold Tsang. The story tells the tale of Baptiste returning home and finding a corporation has run roughshod over his native land.

It also suggests that the battle medic saw Winston's call to arms at the end of his reveal teaser and is looking to join the new generation of Overwatch heroes in battle.

Cyberpunk 2077 Behind-Closed-Doors Demo Will Be Shown Publicly During PAX West

At E3 this year, CD Projekt Red showed off a new demo for Cyberpunk 2077, their upcoming first-person action-RPG game set in the Cyberpunk tabletop universe. Last year's demo impressed everyone who was lucky enough to get in to see it and CDPR decided to release it publicly just a few months later. It seems like they'll be doing the same thing this year, as E3 2019's demo looks to be released during PAX West.

Twitter user @shinobi602 posted a video description from Gamespot, which was only shown as a live gameplay demo by appointment at E3, stating the gameplay video would be released during Gamescom, which takes place toward the end of August. It turns out fans will have to wait just a week later, according to CDPR's global community lead Marcin Mormot.

It's going to happen exactly during PAX West. :)

Transform And Roll Out With A New Transformers x Ghostbusters Figure

Transform And Roll Out With A New Transformers x Ghostbusters Figure

A few months back, we noted what seems to be the first collaboration between the Transformers license and the Ghostbusters license, which of course manifests itself as Transformers turning into the Ecto-1. The famous car from the Ghostbusters movies allowed the team to respond in style to ghosts hunts, but also, what if it was Optimus Prime? Now you no longer have to wonder!

Unveiled by Bleeding Cool, the new Transformers x Ghostbusters collaboration paints Optimus Prime a bright white to match the Ecto-1, but doesn't take the same 1959 Cadillac form as the actual car from the movies. Instead, it becomes a mack truck to fit Optimus Prime's size and style more accurately.

The figure is exclusive to San Diego Comic-Con attendees at Hasbro's booth for $150, so expect to bring some money with you. Should there be any supply left after the convention, they'll be available on Hasbro Pulse, the toy manufacturer's online store.

Not All Pokémon Will Transfer To Sword And Shield

Not All Pokémon Will Transfer To Sword And Shield

There's a lot to be excited about with Game Freak's next mainline Pokémon games. However, one new detail arose during Nintendo's Treehouse live presentation during E3 that's making some fans upset: Some of the Pokémon – and we don't know which ones – will not be transferable from the upcoming Pokémon Home service to Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The Pokémon Company has made a point of carrying your old Pokémon to new installments since 2002's Ruby and Sapphire. And with the 3DS virtual console versions of Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Silver being compatible with the Pokémon Bank service, it's possible – if a bit convoluted – to transfer a Pokémon from games that came out in 1998 to the most recent installments, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which launched in 2017.

If your Pokémon can be found within the Galar region, then you're still in luck, as you can transfer them from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home, and then into Sword and Shield. However, if your 'mon isn't catchable within the upcoming games, producer Junichi Masuda says this won't be possible, at least at launch.

Former Final Fantasy VII Remake Studio Comments On Re-Reveal

Former Final Fantasy VII Remake Studio Comments On Re-Reveal

Final Fantasy VII Remake was one the most talked-about games of at E3 this year, and with good reason. It looks to be a thorough remake with lots of things to uncover, even if it will take Square Enix quite some time to deliver the game in full to excited fans. One of those fans is a director at Cyberconnect2, the developer previously at the helm of Remake.

Currently, Ryosuke Hara is directing Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, an action-RPG set in the Dragon Ball universe. When speaking to him about that game, we couldn't help but bring up Cyberconnect2's history with Remake; it was the original developer on that project before publisher Square Enix decided to bring development in-house after director Tetsuya Nomura expressed dissatisfaction with how the game was shaping up.

While Ryosuke wasn't able to confirm whether he was one of the people working on Remake at that time, he was able to express how excited he is for Square's version of the game. "I think as a fan and as a creator, I have very, very high expectations for what this game is going to bring to all these long-awaiting fans as well as the industry," Hara told us. "I think I'm genuinely just excited to see how it will be packaged, and how this game is going to end up looking in its final form."

Amazon Game Studios Lays Off 'Dozens' Of Employees

This week Amazon has laid off "dozens" of its Amazon Game Studios employees, who have 60 days to find another job within Amazon proper or receive a severance package on their way out.

The news comes from a Kotaku article that reports the layoffs were made during the week of E3, and that AGS has also canceled some unannounced games.

In a statement to Kotaku, an AGS spokesperson confirmed the layoffs, saying the move was made to consolidate development on its upcoming New World and Crucible games. "These moves are the result of regular business planning cycles where we align resources to match evolving, long-range priorities," the spokesperson said. The company would not confirm the exact number of employees affected.

Cyberpunk 2077's Character Creator Will Include Nonbinary Gender Options

Cyberpunk 2077's Character Creator Will Include Nonbinary Gender Options

Among the many cool things we saw about Cyberpunk 2077 is its character creation tool, which allows you customize your character's look and stats, even allowing you to modify their street cred. However, the demo we saw this week showed only two cosmetic renditions of the character, one male and one female with different skill builds. CD Projekt Red has confirmed the creation tool will be much more diverse than this in the final version of the game, especially when it comes to physical appearance and gender.

For context, while Cyberpunk 2077 was being shown off at E3, a controversy regarding a risque in-game ad depicting a transgender character emerged, with some taking offense to how the ad fetishized or dehumanized trans people.

Speaking with Polygon, CDPR art director Kasia Redesiuk said the ad is meant to be dystopian satire, and the company's goal is to create more acceptance for trans people and those with non-binary genders.
