Ms. Splosion Man Coming To Switch Next Week

Ms. Splosion Man Coming To Switch Next Week

A new and improved Ms. Splosion Man is releasing on Switch this Thanksgiving. Recalling the Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man naming formula, Ms. Splosion Man is a sequel to the 2009 hit Splosion Man. The game is set in the immediate aftermath of an accident that created a second being made entirely of explosive materials: Ms. Splosion Man. To win, players must "'splode" to vault over obstacles, demolish traps, and defeat enemies.

The game was originally released on the Xbox 360 in 2011, which is the same year the developers, Twisted Pixel Games, became part of Microsoft. Now that Twisted Pixel has struck out on its own, the critically acclaimed platformer is free to release on the Switch. This new Switch release will include 50 levels for single player as well as 50 levels for local and online co-op for up to four players.

Ms. Splosion Man is set to launch November 22 on the Nintendo Switch. We had a lot of praise for the game back when it originally released and gave it an 8.75 in our review.

Gwent's Thronebreaker Expansion Not Selling To Expectations, According To Publisher

Gwent's Thronebreaker Expansion Not Selling To Expectations, According To Publisher

Thronebreaker, the recently-released single-player expansion for Gwent, isn't selling as well as developer/publisher CD Projekt Red had hoped, and part of that may be due to the storefront it chose to debut on.

The expansion, which takes the card-battling minigame from The Witcher 3 and builds a brand new game and storyline around it, didn't release on Steam, as developer/publisher CD Projekt Red opted to make it exclusive to its own storefront, GoG. That may have caused it to underperform relative to expectations, according CD Projekt Red co-CEO Adam Kiciński.

"The initial period [of sales] may not have lived up to our initial expectations," Kiciński told investors in a conference call yesterday. He then pivoted to talking to the main reason why that may have been the case: GoG simply is nowhere near as popular as Steam, the main PC storefront these days. "The game appeared on GoG first for fairly straightforward reasons," he said. "GOG is our priority platform and we wanted to release the game there first to gamers who support us there. However, the reach of GOG is incomparably smaller than that of Steam."

Resume Hints Square-Enix Is Gearing Up For The PS5

Linkedin pages have served as one of the game industry's fortune tellers, with employees often listing projects they're working on and inadvertently giving away secrets. Today, it looks like a Square-Enix employee might have let a huge cat out of the hardware bag.

A former version of the LinkedIn page for Tomohiro Tokoro (Luminous 3D's Character Model Lead Artist) included a listing that read "New AAA Title For PS5."

The Linkedin page has since been edited to remove the listing. We've reached out to Square-Enix for comment and will update the story if we hear back.

THQ Nordic Acquires Wreckfest And Goat Simulator Developers

THQ Nordic Acquires Wreckfest And Goat Simulator Developers

THQ Nordic announced last night that they have acquired Wreckfest developer Bugbear, as well as Goat Simulator developer Coffee Stain, as well as acquiring all of their intellectual properties. So the company that brings you Saints Row, Darksiders, and Biomutant is also now the owner of physics-based goat simulation titles.

The Helsinki-based Bugbear has previously been known for working with Bandai Namco on Ridge Racer Unbounded and has been developing indie racing title Wreckfest since a failed Kickstarter campaign for the game in 2013 when it was called Next Car Game. Coffee Stain Studios is a Swedish developer with a wide variety of game types under their belt, like FPS tower defense Sanctum and upcoming building game Satisfactory.

THQ Nordic's strange acquisitions seem to be keeping the eclectic publishing spirit THQ, which is almost wholly unrelated to the company that now bears the same name, alive. The publisher's next original project is Darksiders III, developed by a studio primarily made up of ex-Vigil staff, releasing on November 27 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Older Telltale Games Titles Being Removed From Sale As Company Closes

Several older Telltale games have been removed from sale from Steam today, following a report that Telltale Games is filing for bankruptcy. While not every game has been removed, Telltale is entering into a process that ends with the company officially closing its doors after months of being on its death bed.

According to GameDaily, Telltale has contracted an outside company, Sherwood Partners, to aid in shepherding the Northern California game developer through bankruptcy proceedings. This includes a total liquidation of all of Telltale's assets, which can include everything from office furniture to intellectual property.

As part of this, an ex-employee told GameDaily that Telltale will cease offering COBRA health insurance legally mandated to offer affected employees who are not yet receiving new health insurance on November 30. The employees laid off from Telltale also did not receive severance after their employment ended.

It would be difficult to set out to make a game like Contra and not have it look exactly like Contra, so why not just lean into it instead? That's pretty much what Blazing Chrome is setting out to do and it was obvious when we first took note of it at PAX East earlier this year, but every new trailer completely reinforces it. The developer has announced that you'll be running and gunning in early 2019 and have officially announced a Switch version will come in tow.

Check out the new environments trailer below.

Developer JoyMasher has announced that the game will be releasing in early 2019, just missing its 2018 target date. However, this does give time for the newly-announced Switch release to launch alongside the other versions, so you can take it on the go from day one.
