Steam Link Can Now Be Used Long Distance

While Valve recently suggested an end to the Steam Link production by announcing how few were still in circulation, those who managed to get one will now have a renewed use for it. The Steam Link will now function over more than just a local network, as users will be able to use it away from their home PCs as long as they are connected to the internet.

Steam announced today that a new feature called Steam Anywhere is now in beta, letting players hook their Steam Link up to an internet connection and access their Steam library from anywhere, provided your Steam library is on a PC with a high upload speed. Obviously the Steam Link itself needs a pretty strong connection, too.

If you want in right now, you need to opt-in to the Steam client beta through the program's settings and make sure you've updated to the March 13 version. The feature itself is obviously still in beta so it might not work flawlessly if you've got a big trip planned and expect to take your Steam library with you.

Castle Crashers Being Teased For Switch

Castle Crashers Being Teased For Switch

It seems like, with all the indie success the Switch is seeing these days, it makes sense for indie developers to try and get their games onto the system for a piece of that pie. If your game is multiplayer, so much the better, because the marketing copy basically writes itself at that point. This is probably the logic behind The Behemoth, developers of games like Alien Hominid and Battleblock Theater, to start teasing a Switch release of their side-scrolling beat 'em up Castle Crashers.

The tease came in the form of a tweet showing four joycons in the colors of the four default Castle Crasher playable knights.

The Creators Of Left 4 Dead Announce Back 4 Blood

There are no screenshots or trailers yet, unfortunately, but the studio behind Evolve that is made of the creative minds behind Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, announced a partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive today to make a cooperative zombie shooter called Back 4 Blood.

The name, Back 4 Blood is an obvious callout to the studios' previous work. In the press release for the game, co-founder and design director Chris Ashton is quoted saying, “It’s hard to overstate what an awesome opportunity this is. We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains.” Regarding whether or not this is Left 4 Dead 3, Turtle Rock's community manager writes, "No. Back 4 Blood is our own brand new, original IP. You’ll be able to shoot up a lot of zombies like in Left 4 Dead, but there’s a whole lot of new stuff in Back 4 Blood which makes it unique."

According to the game's FAQ page, it is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC at some point, it will have a campaign and PvP, it's not a battle royale, and pricing has not been decided yet. Turtle Rock's community manager writes, "We haven’t locked down a price point yet, but the game will be a premium, AAA title."

Microsoft Bringing Xbox Live To iOS And Android, Enhancing Its Game Creation Ecosystem For All Devs

Microsoft is enabling developers of mobile games to use Xbox Live features thanks to new mobile SDKs. The news arrives as a part of Microsoft's initiative to empower game developers on whichever platform they choose to create on. This confirms half of a report from February that said Xbox Live is coming to mobile platforms as well as Switch.

When mobile developers choose to create a game with Xbox Live, they are able to choose à la carte from features like Achievements, Gamerscore, Clubs, friends list, family settings, and more. Since this initiative is created with the idea of bridging gaps between platforms, Microsoft says that Achievements earned on mobile Xbox Live-enabled mobile titles will fold into players' overall Xbox Gamerscore.

When asked about the reports of Xbox Live coming to Nintendo Switch, or even the potential for it ever coming to PlayStation, Microsoft talked about its continued commitment to collaborating with other platform holders and uniting gamers across the world regardless of their device of choosing, but was unable to make any announcements. Along those same lines, Microsoft doubled down that Project xCloud's mission is bring Xbox's console gaming content to other devices regardless of their computing power via streaming. Public trials of the service will begin later this year.
