Conan Unconquered Is A Strategy Game By Former Command And Conquer Developers

Funcom has announced that it, including some former Command & Conquer developers, are working a new strategy game set in the Conan the Barbarian universe.

The label of "strategy game" may be a bit misleading, however. The official press release says "Wave after wave of increasingly more difficult enemies will rush at your gates and you will need to manage resources, research new technologies to advance your defenses, and recruit an ever-growing army if you are to save survive utter destruction," which means it's more of tower-defense game than StarCraft. The game moves in real-time, but lets you pause to issue orders and create buildings. You'll also be fortifying your buildings between rounds with defensive walls and the like, as well as unlock new heroes to play as. It also lets you fend off the randomly generated hordes in co-op with one other player.

You can check out the CGI trailer below.

Capcom Announces Special Monster Hunter: World Stream Next Week

At last night's Game Awards, Monster Hunter: World developers were asked by host Geoff Keighley if they had anything to announce. They demurred and instead said there will be something big within the next couple of days, but they couldn't say it there on stage. Today, Capcom announced there will be a special Monster Hunter stream for fans on Monday, December 10, likely to introduce whatever it was they were hinting at.

Weekend Warrior – Simply Smashing

As we dive into this weekend, most of the Game Informer editors are looking forward to using their favorite gaming characters to beat up other ones because Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out today! When we aren’t feverishly fighting our way through that game, a ton of us will be trying to finish Red Dead Redemption II. Those who have finished the game promise it's not a long ride for a short drink of water, though.

If you are doing anything fun this weekend, let us know in the comments below!

Leo Vader (@leovader) – I'll be playing more Red Dead Online! Hopefully all the free money they gave out will be enough to get a long scope rifle for hunting. I'll also be playing more Just Cause 4 and trying out that new Hitman 2 escalation. Best time to be a gamer!!!!

Mortal Kombat XI Will Have Character Variations, New Story, Full Reveal In January

Mortal Kombat XI Will Have Character Variations, New Story, Full Reveal In January

While Mortal Kombat XI has been rumored practically to the point of inevitability, it was still a surprise when Ed Boon revealed the new game at last night's Game Awards. The trailer, which was set to an original track, showed Dark Raiden from Mortal Kombat X's ending facing off against Scorpion, which seemed about right. It then raised more questions when Scorpion re-emerged in his Mortal Kombat II garb, once again sporting the powers of a demon.

If you're confused about this, don't worry, you're not the only one. In a press release, developer Netherrealm describes the story as "time-bending," suggesting that multiple incarnations of long-running characters will be present for the tournament. It would be a good way to bring back characters left by the wayside when the story rebooted with Mortal Kombat 9.

The press release also confirms that character variations will be a major factor, though it seems to be taking more from Injustice 2's character customizations than the the multiple styles that were present in Mortal Kombat X. Netherrealm has seemingly taken feedback on the balance of the variations from both games to better implement them now.

Bioware Offers Minuscule Details On New Dragon Age Project

Bioware Offers Minuscule Details On New Dragon Age Project

After last night's announcement of a seemingly-unnamed new Dragon Age project, fans have been eager for Bioware to detail the upcoming game. Unfortunately, Bioware is staying mostly tight-lipped outside of a blog post that can best be summarized as "It exists, you'll see more eventually."

"We have been working on a new Dragon Age game for quite a while now and I am pleased to finally tease the existence of this project!" writes Mike Darrah, producer for the Dragon Age games and also Anthem. "While we won’t be sharing any details for now, I can tell you we have been building a new team around a core of Dragon Age veterans, people I’ve worked with on Dragon Age, Jade Empire, and some of whom I’ve worked with since the Baldur’s Gate days. While I have been focused on Anthem, the rest of the team has been hard at work exploring ways to push BioWare’s storytelling to the next level."

Before the game's reveal, GamesBeat reported that the game is still extremely nascent and has little to it besides a confirmation of life. The blog post seems to confirm that to be the case, though Darrah's comment seems to suggest that pre-production work has been occurring while he manages Anthem. This fits with GamesBeat's timeline suggesting the game is still three to four years away, but Bioware wanted to reassure their fans that something more RPG-like is coming.

Devil May Cry 5's Multiplayer Is Called The Cameo System

Devil May Cry 5's Multiplayer Is Called The Cameo System

A store page for Devil May Cry 5 listed "online multiplayer" a few months ago, leaving fans scratching their heads over what this could possibly mean. Capcom wasn't keen to answer those questions before, but has now revealed how players can play together in Devil May Cry 5 in what they're calling "The Cameo System."

The way the system works is that the three characters — Dante, Nero, and V — are occasionally in the same place in the story. To Capcom, that means it makes sense that the characters would be fighting alongside each other rather than just taking turns hidden away. In the Cameo System, a player playing as Nero in a city that Dante is also fighting in might see Dante fighting in the distance or possibly right up next to Nero. It turns out that Dante is another player.

Next Beyond Good And Evil 2 Stream To Showcase Pre-Alpha Gameplay

Next Beyond Good And Evil 2 Stream To Showcase Pre-Alpha Gameplay

The Beyond Good and Evil 2 team at Ubisoft has been mostly quiet since the game's reveal at E3 2017 with occasional outbursts of information. This past year, we've seen a small snippet of the game's fighting system and a story trailer at E3, but not a whole lot beyond that. With the next Space Monkey Report, Ubisoft's name for Beyond Good and Evil 2 developer updates, we will hopefully see something more significant.

"As promised, we will be back with another Space Monkey Report Live Stream on December 10 at 6:00 p.m. CET / 12:00 p.m. EST," the game's website says. "We will be live on TwitchYouTube, and Facebook. We're excited to reveal some pre-alpha gameplay, so make sure you tune in for this report! You won’t want to miss it!"

The term "pre-alpha" can vary from developer to developer, with some studios using it to mean development states where the mechanics aren't even nailed down yet and others using it to refer to any time before the game is playable on a consumer level with demos and pre-release alphas. It's hard to gauge by their use of the term exactly how far the Beyond Good and Evil sequel is right now, but we should be able to gleam something from it.
