ArcheAge Launches September 16

Trion Worlds' upcoming free-to-play MMORPG ArcheAge was given an official release date at a community event during PAX Prime 2014. Players can begin exploring the open-world seafaring, gliding, farming and castle sieging on September 16.

We also had a chance to take a quick peek at some gameplay, taking a look at just how the capped sieging process works. Even if your guild is 800 strong and the defending guild has 100, the system caps out attackers and defenders at 75 to keep things balanced during siege time.

Also, boats. ArcheAge has all kinds of things to do on boats, from taking on the Kraken raid boss (who drops an awesome glider, I'm told) to cruising around or pirating on the high seas. Here's one more interesting tidbit - Due to ArcheAge's player-driven economy, many of the best items in the game are created via skilled crafting, and not acquired via raiding or dungeon crawling.

Madden Fan Drops $95 On Ultimate Team, Interrogated By Wife During Livestream

The Ultimate Team modes in Madden, FIFA, NHL, and NBA Live are dangerous. Once you get drawn in by the lure of making your competitive team better via pack purchases, it can be tough to know when to stop. Just ask Madden YouTuber iMAV3RIQ.

During a video recording walking his viewers through pack openings, his wife interrupts him to question a $95 charge from Microsoft on their credit card bill. Hilarity ensues. Jump to the 4:50 mark to see life get real, and make sure you stick around for the Pokemon line.

Despite My Love Of The Legacy Of Kain, Nosgoth Won Me Over

Despite My Love Of The Legacy Of Kain, Nosgoth Won Me Over

If push came to shove and I had to pick only one series to get an HD makeover (or, even better, a full-on reboot), it would be The Legacy of Kain. I've adored the vampire tales of Kain, Raziel, and the gnarled Soul Reaver sword since Kain's fateful transformation into a fanged anti-hero.

When Square Enix first announced the free-to-play, humans-vs-vampire action game Nosgoth, I turned up my nose at it. That's why I made a point of scheduling time to see it at PAX today.

If you're as much a Legacy of Kain fan as I am, you should know that Nosgoth is not intended to be canon. It's a what-if tale based on the core principles of the mythology, and with that understanding, the set-up works.

Each game includes two rounds, so players can take on the role of vampire or human. The two sides play very differently, with vampires able to climb walls and brutalize victims at close range. Humans rely on ranged weapons like crossbows and pistols.

There are currently four classes of each (with multiple skill and loadout options), ranging from accessible to advanced. The asymmetric nature of the game requires players to excel as both races. Playing as vampires allows you to pounce on victims from afar or take flight, lift humans in the air, and drop them.

Xenoblade Chronicles Shulk Confirmed For Smash Bros.

Earlier in the week, a rumor circulated that Xenoblade Chronicles’ Shulk and Super Mario Bros.’ Bowser Jr. would be joining the Super Smash Bros. roster. At least one of those characters is now confirmed.

Shulk brings his sward, the Monado, into battle and will use it to hit his foes with a beam of energy from a distance. Additionally, when Shulk activates his sword's Monado Arts, his features and abilities will change, which should make him a very technical but versatile fighter. Check out his reveal trailer below.

Reader Discussion: Which Game Series Should Get A Mobile Release?

about X hours ago from

There is a lot of room in the mobile space for many of today's popular franchises. Let's explore some of the ways developers could translate their favorite series over to a mobile market.

Indie developer Team Meat, recently debuted Super Meat Boy Forever at this year’s PAX. The game is a auto-runner similar to Rayman Jungle Run, and will release soon on PC and tablets. I loved the original Super Meat Boy, and turning the game into an auto-runner for mobile systems sounds great. I can't wait to get my hands on the game, but that announcement got me thinking: what other franchises should get a mobile version?

Series like Civilization, Dead Space, and Resitdent Evil have already seen mobile entries, but there is large wealth of video game franchises to choose from. Personally, I think a mobile version of Fez could be fun, but I'd also love to play a version of Blizzard's StarCraft on the go. What about you, do you have ideas for mobile versions of existing properties?

Grand Theft Auto V Rerelease Gets Updated Radio Tracks

about X hours ago from

Rockstar is currently preparing to drop the massive city of Los Santos onto our PlayStation 4s, Xbox Ones, and PCs this fall, but it might not be a simple port. If nothing else, Grand Theft Auto V's upcoming rerelease could have updated audio tracks and music.

Non Stop Pop FM is one of GTA V’s adult contemporary radio stations. The station is hosted by British model Cara Delevingne, and Delevingne recently took to twitter after heading into the RockStar studio to record some updates.

Back with @rockstargames to update my GTAV radio station Non Stop Pop FM for new versions coming this… http://t.co/ef2VSb0g9G

Weekend Warrior 08/29/2014

To celebrate the beginning of a new school year, Game Informer is diving into the console version of Diablo III's console release. None of use will celebrate by going back to school.

Tim Turi: I’ve finally made it to the last boss in Rogue Legacy. Given the entire game’s brutally steep difficulty, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the final boss is giving me a hard time. Guess I’ll have to spend some time grinding while watching something cool or listening to a podcast. Also, I’d like to dive back into Diablo III: Reaper of Souls on the PS4 and splatter some more fools while getting better gear.

Andy McNamara: After I play some Diablo III, I may play some Diablo III, followed by some Diablo III. Oh yeah, and some Walking Dead Season 2 in the mornings. It's gonna be a great weekend.
