NPD: More Than One Third Of U.S. Population Plays PC Games

And to think they said PC gaming was dead. The platform is not only living, it's thriving according to a new NPD study that claims 37 percent of the U.S. population over the age of nine plays PC games.

These aren't just passing fancies, either. The report suggests this contingent plays an average of 6.4 hours per week.

Think this is just a boys club? Think again. The gender breakdown claims 51 percent of this group is men, and 49 percent is women. Gamers also tend to be older (average age of 38) and relatively well off, with an average household income hovering around $69,000.

Sony Says Destiny Is Getting The First-Party Treatment

Bungie's latest spacefaring adventure has garnered a lot of attention, and players aren't the only ones who are taking notice. Sony and Microsoft have been squabbling over the Activision-published game, with Microsoft taking a shot at its competitor's exclusive deals via a bizarre UK ad for a fake cologne. In a new interview, a Sony executive is emphasizing Destiny's importance to the PlayStation brand, saying that it's being treated like a first-party game within the company's walls.

"We're treating it, for all intents and purposes internally, as if it's a first-party release," Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara told Eurogamer. "We're wrapping our arms around it on all levels of the organisation. It's a special project and an important project, and it has the power to launch Christmas. It's hugely important."

Even though the game is available on other platforms, Sony's exclusive content – which is timed to remain so until the end of 2015 – makes it an appealing proposition to players who already have Microsoft and Sony's consoles or are weighing a decision to purchase one.

Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor Last-Gen Versions Delayed Until November

If you were planning on picking up the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions of Shadow of Mordor this month, we have some bad news. The last-gen versions need a bit more time on the forge.

Warner Bros. has announced that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will now be releasing on November 18 in the US and November 21 in Europe. Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions are still on track for September 30 in the United States and Europe.

This means that after movement on both Dragon Age: Inquisition and Shadow of Mordor, the titles will still be going head-to-head after all (even if not entirely).

Reader Discussion: What Destiny Class Are You Starting With?

about X hours ago from

In just a few hours, Destiny will unlock for those of us here in North America. After a successful alpha and beta test with millions of players, the age old question has bubbled under the surface, as it does with every RPG. What class are you playing first?

Perhaps you’ll pick up the knife and golden gun of the Hunter. Maybe you’ll suit up in the heavy armor of the Titan. Or, you could decide to wield the powers of a Warlock.

And, of course, there’s the more aesthetic options to consider. Are you rolling as a pale skin human, with the colorful hues of an Awoken, or are you going synthetic as an Exo.
