Free Updates For The Sims 4 Brings Star Wars Costumes Now, Pools Later

The Sims 4 might not have made the critical splash that EA and Maxis were hoping for (our review), but with some free updates, maybe it will warrant a second look from consumers. The first content pack is available now, with some seasonally appropriate inclusions.

October means Halloween, so Maxis is bringing your dead Sims back from the grave as ghosts. You can invite your dearly departed Simmed ones back into your house, with all their stats in place (and some new behaviors influenced by how they passed on). There’s even a chance you’ll be able to give them a second chance at wearing a meat suit.

In celebration of the holiday, you’ll also get some Star Wars-themed costumes. You can dress up as Leia in her white gown, Luke in his X-Wing pilot uniform, Darth Vader, and Yoda.

The Cryptarch Abides As Latest Destiny Patch Goes Live

about X hours ago from

We hope you haven’t been hanging onto any legendary engrams in your Destiny vault. Now that the new Destiny patch is live, those are now blue but your chance (however slim) at purple gear from them hasn't changed. There are some reasons to be happy about this patch, especially if you're trying to boost your light level.

Blue (rare) engrams will now have a greater chance of pumping out a legendary item. This includes ascendent shards and ascendent energy, which are now considered legendary tier (upgraded from rare tier). Additionally, rare and legendary engram drops are now part of the reward table for the Vanguard: Tiger strike playlist, daily heroic missions, and weekly strikes (only the first time per play, though). Finally, Bungie is aware of a UI bug that doesn't show added experience rewards for higher difficulties. You'll still receive your bonus, though.

For crucible players, Bungie has reduced the map time on First Light and Bastion from 15 minutes to 12 minutes in control and clash modes. Those two maps will appear less frequently in the rotation now, too. If you're playing, you'll need to reload from the main menu to trigger the patch.

PlayStation Plus October Titles Include Batman, Bunnies, And Bonus Driveclub

You’ve still got a week to pick up September’s PlayStation Plus games, so don’t worry about the calendar saying “October.” If you’ve already burned through all six titles and are looking for something new though, the next slate has been announced.

This month will bring seven games, including the Driveclub trial we were promised way back at the PlayStation 4 launch. On PS4, you can grab that along with Dust: An Elysian Tale and Spelunky (also cross-buy).

PlayStation 3 owners get Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara). On Vita, you can pick up Pix the Cat (also cross-buy on PS4) and Rainbow Moon (netting you the PS3 version, too).

Zen Studios Says ‘Howdy-Ho’ To South Park Pinball

There isn’t much information yet, but Zen Studios has announced its latest collaboration. The studio says it will be rolling through the sleepy mountain town of South Park.

Chances are there will be colorful language, biting political satire, and maybe Kenny dying. Or, just some really good pinball. We’ll find out more soon about the two South Park-themed tables.

Take A Turn To Watch Civilization: Beyond Earth In Action

At first glance, Civilization: Beyond Earth might appear to be the series’ popular gameplay with an alien skin. A deeper look reveals significant changes that, while not totally abandoning Civ’s history, offer new strategies in humanity’s near future.

In the video below, you’ll get a sense for the story and the options available each time you play. Since affinities (the three major approaches to development) aren’t tied to specific leaders, you’ll have a number of combinations with which to experiment.

While we’ve spoken at length about Civilization: Beyond Earth before, this video gives the first solid look at how different the Purity, Supremacy, and Harmony paths are. If you want to tame the hostile alien lifeforms (and ride them like Muadib on a Shai-Halud), you can do that.

Dallas Actor Jesse Metcalfe Stars In Dead Rising: Watchtower

about X hours ago from

Legendary Digital Media is producing a film based on Capcom's zombie-filled Dead Rising franchise, and it will feature a star-studded cast...the kind of dimly lit stars that you need a telescope to see. Earlier this summer, news broke that the Dead Rising film would debut on Sony's video-on-demand service Crackle. Then Leprechaun: Origin's Zach Lipovsky was announced as director of the film, which looks to explore the origins of an epidemic that spreads after a government vaccine fails to stop the zombie infection.

Now we've discovered that actors Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die, Dallas), Meghan Ory (Once Upon a Time, Vampire High), Virginia Madsen (Sideways, The Number 23), and Dennis Haysbert (24, Wreck It Ralph) are set to star in the film.

Our Take
Honestly, I don't expect a Dead Rising film to be high art, but this could have the makings of a fun, campy zombie film, so here's hoping that Dead Rising: Watchtower turns into a silly Thursday evening with friends and popcorn.
