Report: The Lego Movie's Batman Getting His Own Spinoff Movie

One of The Lego Movie’s most amusing characters is getting his own spinoff. Will Arnett will be reprising his role as the caped crusader for a Lego Batman film likely due in 2017.

Hollywood Reporter indicates that Chris McKay, who was the animation director on The Lego Movie, is handling Lego Batman. Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is writing the screenplay.

The plot and whether this will be an extension of the Batman character seen in The Lego Movie have yet to be discussed. For more on The Lego Movie, check out our review of the game. A third Lego Batman game subtitled Beyond Gotham is due out on November 11 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Vita, 3DS, and PC.

Some Driveclub Features, Modes Removed As Evolution Continues Server Work

Evolution Studios has provided an update on the troubled launch of racing game Driveclub (our review). In order to get more players online, the developer has disabled some of the game’s functions.

“Some functions are temporarily unavailable including challenges and social updates, but for those of you that can connect, you will still be able to participate in clubs, leaderboards and online multiplayer races,” Evolution posted on its Facebook page. The studio says that tour mode, custom solo events, and car customization are available when not connected to the servers.

Additional server updates are planned for the coming days. These will impact the availability of online functions.

This Week In Mobile – RPGs, Zombies, and Match Threes

This week's mobile offerings include ports of a couple of ports of popular RPG titles, some variations on the match three puzzle genre, and, of course, some zombie racing.

Terra BattleDeveloper: Mistwalker CorporationPlatforms: iOS, Android
Price: Free (In-App Purchases)

Terra Battle is the newest game from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi’s game company MIstwalker. It’s a free-to-play Strategy RPG that puts a twist on matching puzzle games. Instead of matching same-colored pieces you try to match your units with enemies. Any time you manage to surround an enemy piece (enemy in middle, your pieces on each side) you initiate an attack. Attacks get stronger based on a variety of factors (weapon type, other allies in your row, positioning of a power orb), adding a lot of complexity to what seems like a simple strategy game.

Reader Discussion: When Do You Get Your Gaming In?

As we get older, there are more demands on our time. Gaming becomes something we fit in rather than work our schedules around.

We want to know when you find the time to game? Do you get up early and get a few multiplayer matches in before work or school?

Do you prefer to settle in for a long night with the lights off? Or are you the kind of person that makes a beeline straight for the console or PC as soon as you get home?

Report: Sony Plans To Enter Chinese Market With PlayStation 4 This Year

A new report indicates that Sony is preparing to join Microsoft in the Chinese market. The company could ship up to 200,000 PlayStation 4 consoles into the China Pilot Free Trade Zone annually, beginning this December.

Bloomberg reports on a filing, since confirmed to that publication by Sony. Though according to the Sony spokesperson as reported by Bloomberg, the 200,000 unit number is not fixed and could vary.

Microsoft launched the Xbox One in China on September 29, reportedly reaching 100,000 units sold in the first day. Microsoft and its local partner, BesTV, are said to be targeting 1 million units sold in the first twelve months.

PSA: You Can Get Free Energy (Premium Currency) For Mistwalker’s Terra Battle

When I first previewed Terra Battle at PAX, I mentioned that the game operates on an energy system. While it is true that each battle drains a slowly refilling meter, “energy” in Terra Battle refers to something different.

Mistwalker uses three different terms that are important to understand when playing the tile-based RPG. Stamina limits the number of battles you can engage in before taking time to recharge. Coins are the currency earned in-game. Energy is what Mistwalker has named the premium currency in Terra Battle.

New characters for your party can be acquired with either coins or energy. When using the former, you’ll randomly draw from the pool of monsters.

Lindsay Lohan Files Amended Complaint In GTA V Likeness Suit

Lindsay Lohan has escalated her complaint against Rockstar over allegedly improper use of her likeness in Grand Theft Auto V. In July, the actress filed suit against publisher Take-Two claiming that minor character Lacey Jonas is modeled after her.

The original 10-page complaint Lohan filed against Take-Two has been amended, weighing in now at 67 pages. In the new complaint, Lohan’s counsel indicates that Rockstar and Take-Two have not only used her image in the game, but also in marketing and merchandising.

Lohan’s legal team also claims that a “Lindsay Lohan look alike side mission” was promoted by Rockstar and reported on gaming blogs in mid-2013, though no specific website links were provided as evidence.

Minecraft Comes To PlayStation Vita On October 14

Minecraft is finally coming to Sony’s handheld, and if you own the PlayStation 3 version, there is some good news. Cross-buy is enabled between PS3 and Vita.

Unfortunately, if you only have the PlayStation 4 edition, you’ll need to purchase the Vita version (or the PS3 edition). You’ll get both, regardless of where you start.

If you want all three and don’t have any yet? Your best bet is to purchase the PS3 or Vita version and then get the PS4 edition for a $4.99 upgrade.
