A Quick History Of The Super Smash Bros. Development

about X hours ago from

Super Smash Bros. is super hot right now, but the four-player fighting game featuring most of Nintendo's biggest brands almost didn't feature a single recognizable character. Here's a quick recap of the development history of the series.

Did you know that Super Smash Bros. was once called Dragon King: The Fighting Game? Or that it’s designers added Nintendo’s mascots without official approval from Nintendo? You can’t pretend that you don’t know that now. Watch this video from Lore in a Minute if you want. Or don’t. We don’t care.

Legendary has announced the cast for its upcoming Dead Rising film. Retired marine, comedy news reporter, and actor Rob Riggle (who has actually covered wars with The Daily Show, you know) will be playing photojournalist Frank West.

Game Informer’s Stance on GamerGate

about X hours ago from

From the failed relationship of two people came a firestorm known as "GamerGate." The episode brought to light how the media and the subject can intersect, which began a conversation about ethics and disclosure.

Game Informer has always acted with ethics and honesty, provides relevant disclosures, and takes the stand that discussing these things and improving game journalism is a positive thing. If journalistic ethics was all GamerGate was about, then it would be a movement worth discussing.

However, from the moment of its inception, GamerGate has been associated with harassment of women in the games industry, and has since repeated that pattern with Brianna Wu and Anita Sarkeesian (both of whom have endured being driven from their homes due to death threats). While the harassment may only be from a minority, it is harassment nonetheless and unacceptable at any and all levels when people fear for their safety.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection 20 GB Intended To Keep Game On One Disc

Last week, we reported that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will have a 20 GB update in addition to the approximately 45 GB on the Blu-ray disc. Now we have a little bit more information about what that additional content represents and why this decision was made.

Halo franchise development director Frank O’Connor took to NeoGAF to explain (yes, we confirmed with Microsoft and 343 that this is O’Connor).

“That's not a patch. It's content,” O’Connor writes. “The game is designed to run as a single, unified product, digital is seamless obviously, but we also wanted disc users to have the same experience, without swapping discs. Since the bulk of it is MP or MP related, the logic is sound. There will ALSO be a [title update] in there, but that in itself is a tiny fraction of the content.”

Earlier today, we mentioned a demo for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in a story about new mega evolutions. It seems that you won’t just be able to download it from the eShop. You’ll need a code.

Nintendo says there will be a number of ways to get your hands on demo codes. Why would you go through the trouble? If you capture a Glalie, you’ll be able to transport it over to the full version via Pokémon Link and start with a mega evolved Pokémon. Your purchased items (like Pokéballs and potions) get ported over, too.

Here are the ways you can get yourself a code:
