Former EA CEO John Riccitiello Takes Over Unity, Founder David Helgason To Stay

Unity has announced a leadership change as founder David Helgason steps down to focus on the company’s strategy. His replacement is a familiar face in the gaming world. Former Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello will lead the company.

In a note on the Unity homepage, Helgason says that the vision for the company will not change. “John completely agrees with our vision and our strategy,” Helgason writes. “If anything it means that we’ll be more focused than ever about making sure everyone has access to the best technology and services. We want all of you to have the best tools and opportunities, and we’re going to do everything we can to make that happen across the board.”

Recently, there were rumors that Unity was shopping itself around in hopes of a buyout. The company firmly put down those reports, stating that it had every intention of remaining independent. Riccitiello departed Electronic Arts in 2013 and joined Unity’s board shortly thereafter.

Judge Dismisses Battlefield 4 Class Action Lawsuit

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston issued a ruling this week in favor of Electronic Arts in a class action suit with EA investors over the disappointing performance of Battlefield 4.

The judge said that statements by EA executives before the game's release for last-gen systems on October 29, 2013 were not made to artificially inflate the company's stock price and did not constitute securities fraud as the lawsuit claims. Instead, the judge said they were "puffery" not meant to mislead investors, but rather statements of opinion and corporate optimism.

Included in the class action's list of deceptions were media statements and awards lauding the game at E3 and other conferences where the game was shown. The complaint also relied on statements from developer DICE in the fall before launch citing the difficulties the company was having developing and testing the game.

PSA: Rockstar Warns Against GTA V PC, PlayStation 4, And Xbox One Beta Phishing Schemes

Grand Theft Auto V will have a beta prior to its release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC, and Rockstar wants to make sure its fans are aware.

On rockstargames.com/nobeta you will find a very clear, very direct message that reads, "Please note: There is no pre-release 'beta' test for Grand Theft Auto V. If you see ads or solicitations to join a beta program, beware as this is likely some type of online phishing scam."

So, if you see some kind of invite to join in Grand Theft Auto V's new-gen beta program and think it's too good to be true, then you're right.
