Bungie Is Doling Out Free Legendary Gear To Some Destiny Players

If you have been away from the Tower for a little while, check your email. You might have a note from Bungie letting you know about a special gift waiting for you in Destiny.

The email managing editor Matt Bertz received isn’t just a notification about his shiny new legendary armor, though. It features some additional information about increasing your light level to push past 20. Bungie recommends playing Vanguard strike playlists to earn marks, which in turn allow you to purchase legendary gear.

If you’ve received one of these emails, log into Destiny and head to the postmaster to claim your gift and nudge past level 20. That might get you on the road to completing the Vault of Glass raid and ready for the first DLC drop on December 9.

Grand Theft Auto V's Rumored First-Person Mode Is Real

In September, Rockstar posted a support article detailing the changes in the new-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V. Among the items listed were on-foot and in-vehicle first-person modes. Rockstar hastily deleted the support page, but now the feature is confirmed.

Speaking with IGN, Rockstar confirms that the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC versions will feature the first-person mode. This required Rockstar to rebuild the animations and how the player interacts on the ground and in vehicles.

When on a motorbike or in a helicopter, player view and audio will be restricted by virtual helmets. On the ground, Rockstar has created different animations for each of the three protagonists.

The Long-Awaited Sims 4 Pool Update Available Now

about X hours ago from

Maxis introduced its first free Sims 4 update last month, and now it's time for the next one: pools. Two new careers are also on deck for December.

When The Sims 4 launched, some key features were absent, such as dishwashers, pools, and even career paths. Maxis has answered by providing free content drops to include some of the most-requested pieces. Last month kicked off the first update, which included ghosts. Today marks the second, which introduces pools. After that, December's addition will feature new career paths. We spoke to Maxis to get the lowdown on some of these new features.

The absence of pools was surprising for fans, as they are typically available at launch. Each iteration has also expanded on them, giving them more use, like letting sims use them to increase their athletic skill. "We knew pools were coming... we just didn't want to promise anything until we had exact timelines on when we could deliver it for our fans," says producer Ryan Vaughan.

The Wait For A Consumer Oculus Rift Is Now Being Counted In Months

Before we get your hopes up too high, Oculus still has not announced a release date for the Oculus Rift. The company isn’t even confirming that it will be released in 2015, though there are certainly customers ready for that.

Speaking at Web Summit 2014, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe says that the consumer version of the Rift isn’t years away anymore. “We’re all hungry for it to happen. We’re getting very close,” he says. “It’s months, not years away, but many months.”

We had a chance to try the latest feature prototype for the Oculus Rift, Crescent Bay. Iribe told us in September that our experience with that version of the headset was very close to what the company expects to ship for consumers.

Nintendo Direct Coming On November 5 Focused On Wii U, 3DS Titles

Nintendo has announced another Direct presentation that will happen tomorrow, November 5. While no specific games are mentioned, the video will cover titles for both Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo recently released its financial data for the second quarter of its current fiscal year. Numbers are up year-over-year, despite aggregated half-year losses.

The company still has one major release left for the holiday, Super Smash Bros. on Wii U, before turning toward the catalog to drive console sales. Mario Kart 8 is in the hands of nearly half of Wii U owners, and it’s likely Nintendo will lean on it for the holidays.

Speaking at PAX Australia, Hi-Rez Studios chief operating officer Todd Harris shared some new information for its MOBA, Smite. The title was announced for Xbox One at Gamescom this year, and the wait won’t be too much longer for some players.

Harris says the game currently has a registered user count of over 5 million, and that should grow as the Xbox One version enters closed beta in early 2015. The studio, which also recently opened Australian servers, hopes to release the game on console in the first half of the year.

For more on Smite, check out our review of the PC version. You can also read up on why we think this is a big get for Microsoft on the Xbox One.
