Reader Discussion – Did You Pick Up Any Amiibos?

Amiibos are here, and if pictures on social media are any indication, they appear to be popular. Did you pick any up?

I grabbed a Link because I am a big Zelda fan (you can see my unboxing video here), and I like the idea of unlocking Zelda stuff in other Nintendo games. I don't feel compelled to buy a full set just yet, though. I'd like a Zelda when she arrives, and if and when a Ness shows up, I'd like to get him, too.

What about you – did you pick up any amiibos yesterday? Did you grab a full set, or just a favorite character or two? Or did you not get any because you don't understand the appeal? Let us know in the comments below.

You can find the full dialogue on the Miiverse. In the interview Miyamoto says making games is easier than making animated short films, but mostly because the two mediums are so different and he has much more experience making games. He also talks about considering the consumer and how that affects making a short film versus making a game. Itagaki Offers Devil's Third Development Update, On Track For 2015 Release On Wii U

Dead or Alive creator and Ninja Gaiden director Tomonobu Itagaki recently shared some updates on the development of the Wii U exclusive Devil's Third.

On Itagaki's Facebook page, he shared a bullet-point list of information about Devil's Third's development. The game, originally meant to release this year, is now on track for release next year. Developer Valhalla Game Studios finished editing the game's final cutscene the other day.

Itagaki said the scope of the single-player is much larger than that of Ninja Gaiden. He also said he looked closely at games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War, and Halo (which he specifically calls out as a favorite), to influence the game's mechanics and direction. There are also some hyperbolic statements like, "Devil’s Third demolishes the standard of past console games in online [multiplayer]," which we won't know more about until the game releases.

Super Mario Advance And DK: King Of Swing Now Available On Wii U Virtual Console

A Game Boy Advance launch title and a weird Donkey Kong off-shoot are now both available on Wii U Virtual Console.

Super Mario Advance launched alongside the Game Boy Advance and is basically a remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 for NES with an assortment of changes and additions.

DK: King of Swing released in 2005 and is the perfect example of a weird Nintendo experiment where it takes one of its known characters and inserts them into a game with a mechanic unlike any other. In the game you use the shoulder buttons to control Donkey Kong's hands as he grabs onto an assortment of handles spaced across each of the levels. It's weird.
