Super Evil Megacorp Launching Vainglory 4.0 On PC And Making Plans For Cross-Platform Play

Vainglory, the multiplayer online battle arena game which launched back in 2015 on mobile platforms, is coming to PC in 2019 and Super Evil is pushing for cross-platform play out of the gate. Kristian Segerstrale, Super Evil Megacorp's CEO stated, "We believe gamers are gamers on any device and deserve to play together regardless of their native platform or preferred control mechanism. He also explained that the company is, "building toward a post-platform vision where gamers can play and compete with anyone, anywhere." Super Evil is partnering with NetEase, Inc to support its cross-platform endeavors in China.

This is a vision not shared by everyone in the gaming industry. In the wake of E3, Sony came under fire for opposing cross-platform play on the PlayStation 4. The former Sony Online CEO only added fuel to the fire when he indicated Sony's reluctance was all about money.

Winter Is Coming In Fortnite’s Season 7

This morning Fortnite tweeted out a reminder that season 7 of the popular battle royale is coming in three days. The cryptic tweet includes the silhouette of what appears to be a crowned ice wraith, and the message “A bitter ice spreads… 3 days to season 7.”

Could Fortnite be channeling its inner Game of Thrones, which airs its final season in 2019? Could there be a possible Ice King skin from the popular animated series Adventure Time as @MikeDoww tweeted out? Or is this just another update celebrating the winter season as Fortnite did with season 6, honoring fall with spooky Halloween-themed gear?

Let us know what you think, and if you’re excited about the new season in the comments section below. And for more on the battle royale champ, be sure to check out our Fortnite news hub where we cover all the latest info from dance emote controversies to the latest skins

Where's Our Just Cause 4 Review?

Just Cause 4's review embargo is now officially up, and tomorrow open-world fans will be able to jump into Rico Rodriguez's latest island-destroying adventure for themselves. However, if you want to hear Game Informer's final verdict before deciding whether to take the plunge or not, you'll have to wait a bit longer. We only received review code for the console version of Just Cause 4 late last night, and as such are just now getting into the action.

While it will be a few days before I'm ready to share my thoughts on the game, you can expect a look at the Just Cause 4's opening later today, courtesy of open-world shenanigans expert Leo Vader. I won't be sitting in on the video so that I can focus on the review, but I'm guessing it will contain plenty of explosions to tide you over.

THQ Nordic May Revive Carmageddon Franchise

THQ Nordic May Revive Carmageddon Franchise

The THQ Nordic has been on a bit of a shopping spree this year acquiring Helsinki-based developer Bugbear last month, rights to Kingdoms of Amalur in September, and Timesplitters and Second Sight properties back in August. Even with all of these new projects, THQ Nordic couldn't resist adding to its collection. The company announced today that it bought the rights to Carmageddon.

A demolition derby disguised as a racing game, Carmagedon first released in 1997 and inspired a slew of ports and sequels. In 2012, Stainless Games proved that love for the franchise was still alive and well when it launched a successful Kickstarter for Carmageddon: Reincarnation. They reached their $400,000 goal in just 10 days and the Kickstarter made over $600,000 by the end. Carmagedon's long legacy of changing hands continues with Stainless Games - which acquired the rights back in 2011 - giving the steering wheel over to THQ Nordic.

It is still unclear what the company wants to do with the title, but this deal could mean a new entry in the series is on the horizon.

Nearly A Half-Dozen Games To Release During The Kinda Funny Games Showcase

Nearly A Half-Dozen Games To Release During The Kinda Funny Games Showcase

The Kinda Funny Games Showcase airs on Twitch this Saturday at 10 a.m. PT. This show will give viewers a look at over 60 games, and nearly a half dozen of them will officially release during the show, meaning you can play them that day. Hosted by Kinda Funny's Greg Miller and Tim Gettys, the Showcase is expected to run for one hour, and is designed to fill the void for PlayStation Experience, which is usually held this week, but will not be happening this year.

“I've always loved how Geoff's Game Awards dovetail with PlayStation's PSX," says Miller. "The Game Awards take care of all the huge news, announcements, and trailers, and then PSX offers a lower key, fan/dev-focused event where other – often smaller – games can shine. With it taking 2018 off, we thought it would be a great opportunity to take it upon ourselves to offer game makers a platform to celebrate their work.”

Kinda Funny hasn't revealed which games will be a part of the program, but Sega, Devolver Digital, Drinkbox Studios, and Bithell Games are just some of the studios that will be featured. Miller and Sega took to Twitter to tease a possible Yakuza announcement for the show.

Starbreeze CEO Steps Down Amid Struggles

Starbreeze – developer of Overkill's The Walking Dead and Payday 2 – has announced that CEO Bo Andersson has stepped down and deputy CEO Mikael Nermark appointed as action CEO by the board of directors. The company is in significant financial straits after the poor performance of Overkill's The Walking Dead.

Starbreeze has filed for reconstruction in a Stockholm, Sweden district court (which was approved) to help the company, and a week ago Starbreeze announced it was performing a financial review.

Starbreeze chairman Michael Hjorth pointed out that Nermark could be just the person to lead them out of their current predicament. "Mikael is a strong leader internally and I have the outmost confidence in him. During his tenure as CEO in previous years, he implemented a comprehensive restructuring and repositioned the company from work for hire to game development based on proprietary IP."

Fan-Made Overwatch Animated Short Pokes Fun At Torbjörn

A couple months ago, Overwatch's Torbjörn received a number of significant changes that allows him to move quicker, take more hits, gives him a higher shooting rate, and a new Ultimate that melts enemies in a pool of lava.

However, some players find this new edge is a bit much, making Torbjörn a frustrating opponent. An animated short from YouTuber dopawto reflects this sentiment in a comedic way.

In the video, we see Torbjörn go against several others like Junkrat and McCree, taking each down without trouble.
