Amiibo Figurines Are Just As Popular As Super Smash Bros.

Earlier this year Nintendo revealed Amiibos, collectible figurines with NFC chips in their bases that allow them to interact with a variety of Nintendo games. The figurines, which are obviously similar to games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, raised some eyebrows. Does the game industry really need another set of figurines to collect? The answer, apparently, was a resounding yes, as Amiibos have gone on to sell at a surprising 1:1 ratio with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U since their launch.

According to Nintendo, the three best-selling figurines so far are Link, Mario, and Pikachu, in that order. The second run of Amiibos just launched, and a third run is already set for release early next year.

However, there are also rumors that certain, less popular figurines have already been discontinued, including Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager. Nintendo has yet to confirm these rumors, but eBay prices for those figures have already jumped to nearly $100.

EA Sports UFC Is The Next Free Game On EA Access

Attempting to keep pace with PlayStation Plus and Microsoft’s Games With Gold services, Electronic Arts continues to add titles to its EA Access game subscription service. The latest title in the lineup is EA Sports UFC, the first entry in the UFC franchise since EA acquired it from THQ in 2012.

The inclusion of EA Sports UFC on December 18 will bring the total count of games free with EA Access to seven, joining including titles like Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. Unlike Sony and Microsoft’s offerings, EA’s service never removes games from its collection, meaning that no matter when you subscribe, you’ll have access to the same games enjoyed by longtime members.

EA Access is currently only available on Xbox One at $5 per month or $30 per year. Along with the host of free games, subscribers get to play EA games five days before their general release and a 10-percent discount on digital content by EA.

Activision Touts Dominating Sales In 2014

We're still a few weeks away from closing out 2014, but that's not stopping Activision from celebrating a little early. Hot off the heels of last night's November NPD numbers, Activision has announced that the two best-selling console games of the year belong to them.

According to Activision, the number-one and number-two best-selling games of 2014 are Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – which has only been out for a month – and Destiny, respectively. Activision also says that Skylanders is the top-selling kids franchise of the year, and that Destiny is the top-selling new IP. Finally, Advanced Warfare's strong sales make this the sixth year in a row that Call of Duty is the best-selling game of November.

The Last Guardian Creator Says Game Is Making Progress

According to The Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda says The Last Guardian is currently in development under "new conditions."

Team Ico's spiritual successor to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus has had a very troubled development cycle, with Ueda temporarily leaving the team and many delays. You can read the full timeline of its woes here. For its part, Sony has been steadfast in saying that the game was not canceled and still in development. However, we now have confirmation from Ueda, who recently spoke out in an interview with Dengeki PlayStation (translated by Kotaku). In it, he suggests that problems he had with Sony have been ironed out, saying, "Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we're making progress under completely new conditions."

It's not clear whether "new conditions" means new business or creative terms with Sony or – more likely – that the game is now being made for PlayStation 4, as many assume.

Valve just announced a new promotion called Steam Auction that will allow you turn Steam Community items into gems that can be use to bid on new games.

Steam users can now turn unused items like trading cards, backgrounds, and emoticons into "Steam Gems." These gems can be used as currency to bid on a series of auctions rounds that will end every 45 minutes from December 15 at 7:45 a.m. until December 18 at 10 a.m. The first round is currently live on the Steam Holiday Auction site. The first round includes games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Star Wars Battlefront II, and The Talos Principle.

Different items have different values, Valve says you should craft Trading Cards into badges, as "the resulting emoticons and backgrounds have high gem values." There's a FAQ on the site that will answer more of your questions. Head over the and start bidding!
