Xbox Live And PSN Issues Plague Christmas, Some Still Ongoing

Did you get a console or new game for Christmas? You probably were pretty disappointed to find that Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network were down. It’s not out of the norm for this to happen on a holiday, as more people flood the network with their new purchases. However, weeks prior, a group called Lizard Squad, said it would target the networks on Christmas through DDoS attacks (sending heavy traffic to the network, the equivalent of a traffic jam on a freeway). Their involvement has yet to be confirmed by Microsoft or Sony.

Xbox Live got up and running last night for the most part, but PSN issues remain. The support page still has its status as “OFFLINE.” The “Ask Sony” twitter account last tweeted about 9 hours ago.

Our engineers are continuing to work hard to resolve the network issues users have experienced today. Thanks for your continued patience!

about X hours ago from

Sony Computer Entertainment and Samsung Electronics are partnering to bring game streaming to Smart TV's in the first half of 2015, Sony announced today. The PlayStation Now service, which will allow TV owners to play hundreds of PlayStation 3 games streamed from the cloud, will be an app included in Samsung's Smart Hub. Games will be played using a Dualshock 4 controller, which will be sold separately.

The TV version of PlayStation now allows players to earn in-game trophies, and play online with other players, although it isn't known it they too must be using the TV version or if they can be on a PlayStation 3 or 4.

Attendees at CES 2015 will be able to get their hands on the Samsung Smart TVs with PlayStation Now built in. No other details regarding game prices or the library were given at this time.

Pokemon Hack Makes A Villain Playable

Pokemon Hack Makes A Villain Playable

No Pokemon hack will likely top the Pokemon Black story, but getting to play as Maxie, the villain from Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, is still pretty damn cool. YouTube user hunterb uploaded a short video that shows Maxie in the starring role, after a ROM hack and a player model swap.

Don't everyone run out and think they can be the next hunterb. Tinkering with your game could result in it not working or its data being corrupted or lost.

Pre-Order Resident Evil HD Remaster And Get It For Both PS3 And PS4

about X hours ago from

Capcom announced today that pre-orders for the forthcoming Resident Evil HD remaster of the 2002 GameCube game are currently available on PlayStation Network. People who pre-order the game - and only those who pre-order it - get it for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 using Sony's cross-buy functionality. Those people will also receive a Resident Evil theme for their systems.

Capcom also noted that Resident Evil HD can be pre-loaded to the consoles and will be readily available for play when the game ships on January 20. Resident Evil HD is not a PlayStation exclusive. It is also coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on the same day.

Our TakeForcing people to pre-order the game to get both versions is annoying, and seems like something that should  be available at any point for people with both systems, but in the larger world of pre-order bonuses, we can be thankful that people who don't put down money early aren't missing out on a section of the game or an in-game bonus of some variety.

Throughout the case, Nintendo had asserted that it had done nothing wrong, and was not in violation of UltimatePointer's patents. The courts agreed.

Cards Against Humanity Gives Players One Square Foot Of Pristine Wilderness

Players who recently donated to a Cards Against Humanity holiday promotion have been awarded ownership of one square foot of an island off the coast of Maine.

The creators of the popular card game purchased Birch Island recently, and then renamed it "Hawaii 2." Now, they have given away ownership - in 1x1 foot plots - to players who gave $15 to the company's "Holiday Bull----" campaign.

Players who donated received a series of mystery gifts, which ranged from a Cards Against Humanity card with their name on it to a copy the company's new Slap.45 game. The game makers also sent $250,000 to the Sunlight Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to transparency in politics and government.
