New Dissidia Final Fantasy Heading To Japanese Arcades

Square Enix's fighting game series starring Final Fantasy characters, Dissidia, is getting a new entry for Japanese arcades.

Announced at the Japanese Amusement Expo, which is an arcade-focused show, this Dissidia Final Fantasy looks like it will differ somewhat from the PSP Dissidia titles with three versus three battles. You can check out the trailer below which showcases a number of iconic Final Fantasy characters duking it out, some of which have never been seen in such high-definition.

Right now the game is only confirmed for Japanese arcade, but Square Enix says more details about the game will be revealed in April.

Godzilla Is Next To Join NECA's 8-Bit Video Game Figure Line

NECA has found success creating ironically unattractive, but blissfully nostalgic figures inspired by 8-bit video games, and Godzilla is the next in line.

Announced during Toy Fair NY, which is happening right now, 8-bit Godzilla has pixelated color scheme that doesn't quite line-up with the movie counterpart, but matches the NES Godzilla: Monster of Monsters game.

@924789227: @NECA_TOYS @Corncob_man THANK YOU! HE's beautiful!

Capcom's Breath Of Fire Now Available On Wii U Virtual Console

The Capcom and  Square Soft (this is before it became Square Enix) team-up Super Nintendo RPG is now available on Wii U's Virtual Console.

Originally released in 1993, Breath of Fire features character designs by Keiji Inafune, who is often credited as being the father of Mega Man. In the game, players take on the role of Ryu, who is among the last surviving members of a race that can turn into dragons. This initial entry in the series went on to inspire four sequels, with Breath of Fire 6 planned for release this year in Japan on mobile devices.

When we reviewed the game way back in 1994, we awarded the game a 9. We also reviewed its Game Boy Advance re-release in 2001 awarding it an 8.

Reader Discussion: Who Is Your Favorite Scary Gaming Monster?

In honor of Friday the 13th, let's take a moment to talk about video game monsters. They're big, they're ugly, but we love them. There are a lot to choose from, but surely you have a favorite. Which horrifying video game monster is your favorite?

Evolve just came out and has a lot of great monsters (though it could have more), and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate just hit the shelves, so it's a good time to be a fan of big monsters. Obviously zombies aren’t a bad pick, but they’re too common for me. I’ve always found the The Witch from Left 4 Dead terrifying, but I might have to give my money to the Nemesis from Resident Evil. What about you? Who’s your favorite gaming monster?

Daybreak Game Company has had a lot of shakeup since breaking off from Sony and changing its name from Sony Online Entertainment. The waves haven't settle yet; now it seems that PlanetSide 2’s creative director Matthew Higby has decided to resign from the company.

"Today was my last day on the PlanetSide 2 team and at Daybreak games," said Higby in a post on Reddit, "This is a move I've been considering for a while now, and the reorganization provided the right opportunity for me to exit.""Planetside 2 is in great hands, with terrific people who honestly care about the game and the players. I can't stress this enough, the folks working on every aspect of the game, developers, marketing, community are talented, hard working people who care more than you can imagine - I'm fully confident they're going to do an amazing job on the next leg of the journey."

PlanetSide 2 is still headed for PS4 something this year; for more details on the game check out our impression of the PC release here.

Each member of the Game Informer crew is tackling the Valentine’s Day weekend in their own way. While some people are still working through last year’s Assassin’s Creed Unity and the next generation Grand Theft Auto V ports, others are checking out this week’s new games including Evolve, Majora's Mask 3D, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. From conversations around the office, some people are also tracking down the New 3DS this weekend. Let us know what you are planning to do this weekend in the comments below!

Dan Tack (@dantack): Monster Hunter with friends!!! And probably some Evolve and Heroes of the Storm too, Lost Vikings woo!

Jeff Marchiafava (@GIJeffM): Now that our Evolve review is finally finished, I’m looking forward to just playing the game for fun with friends. That said, I’m also loving Darkest Dungeon, which I dabbled in a littler earlier this week. If I’ve still got time beyond that, I want to check out Apotheon, which Bryan seemed pretty smitten with.

This Week In Mobile: Bruce Lee, Baldur’s Update, Splash Damage, and Platforming Blobs

This week, fans of Temple Run 2 get a taste of Bruce Lee, and Baldur's Gate gets a big update for everyone who bought the game while it was on sale last week. Splash Damage also dips its toes into the mobile waters and the makers of Cut The Rope roll out an interesting little free-to-play platformer.

Temple Run 2Developer: Imangi Studios, LLCPlatform: iOS, Android
Price: Free, with in app purchases

At this point, Temple Run is a mobile institution. One of the first series to hit it big in the endless-runner genre, the second game added a bit of flare and continues to receive support. Part of that support has been new characters. The game has previously seen the addition of Usain Bolt and a handful of NFL players. Now, anyone looking to kill a little time can hit the temple pathways as Bruce Lee.
