Lionsgate Makes ‘Significant Investment’ In Telltale Games

about X hours ago from

Lionsgate, which last year announced plans to expand into games, has a new partner. The film company has made a “significant investment” in The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us developer Telltale Games.

Telltale, which currently has two titles mid-season (Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones) also recently announced a partnership with Microsoft and Mojang to create a standalone Minecraft story.

The amount of the investment was not disclosed, but it’s significant enough to warrant placement of a Lionsgate executive on Telltale’s board of directors. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer will be joining the developer’s governing body.

Reader Discussion: Can Sonic Be Redeemed?

Reader Discussion: Can Sonic Be Redeemed?

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has been on the ropes for a number of years. Whether you're talking Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) or the failed attempt to dramatically change things up with 2014's Sonic Boom, it's been a rough go for one of gaming's most recognizable mascots.

Since the Sonic Adventure series delivered a good experience for the time, the franchise has brought a couple of brighter moments (Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations) amidst a sea of poorly-received releases across multiple platforms. Even Sonic Lost World, a game that had such promise prior to release, fell well short of expectations when it released in 2013.

As someone who grew up loving the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, I would be very happy to see the series return to its roots and deliver a game that feels more like Sonic 3, but if the developers insist on continuing with 3D games as well, I wouldn't mind seeing a return to the Sonic Adventure style of storytelling and gameplay. A few of my Twitter followers suggested that Sonic Team take the Sonic Generations engine and develop an all-new experience using it; an idea I would enthusiastically embrace.

Mobile Gaming Lounges Are Changing Kids' Birthday Parties

about X hours ago from

As the father of two elementary school children, we visit a lot of birthday parties. We’ve been to Funplex (a Dave and Busters-type location for kids), the roller rink, Chuck E Cheese, the movies, and the bowling alley.

Over the weekend, my son had a birthday party at a friend’s house. The invitation touted something called a Game Truck, but didn’t offer much by way of details.

When we arrived, a large trailer was parked in front of the house. I was invited inside, where I found a wall of sofas, large televisions mounted on the walls, current- and last-gen game consoles, and even an area for motion gaming (with Just Dance set up).
