Donate Blood, Get Bloodborne – But Only In Denmark

Sony Denmark is teaming up with Danish blood donation organization GivBlod to gather blood donations in exchange for copies of Bloodborne on PlayStation 4.

Donators can actually choose between Bloodborne and other undisclosed PlayStation 4 games, but the campaign is focusing on Bloodborne for obvious reasons. For one, the title of the game has the word blood in it, and though I haven't played it extensively, I can imagine the game also has a lot of blood in it, as well. Donators are also entered to win a PlayStation 4 console. The website covering the campaign is not in English (thanks Google translate), but if you're in Denmark for any reason on Monday, March 23, make sure to head to ITU in Copenhagen to give blood.

We've reached out to Sony to find out if there are any plans to bring a comparable program to North America.

TkX Developer Says Former Employer Atari Applying Legal Pressure Over Tempest Similarities

Earlier today, allegations were levied by Tempest 2000 developer Jeff Minter that Atari was applying legal pressure to kill his game, TkX. Minter’s Llamasoft released the Vita title in February 2014, with intentions for the title to appear PlayStation 4, PC, and VR platforms.

Minter took to Twitter today to accuse Atari of blocking those versions, calling them “copyright trolls.” In a follow-up blog post (copied to Pastebin because of excessive traffic on his own site), Minter states that Atari is now applying legal pressure after discussions fell apart.

“They never gave an inch and just continued with threats and bullying,” Minter writes. “Specifically they had their lawyers present a number of legal accusations about a variety of things; we consulted a lawyer who told us that if we wanted to fight against it then it'd be expensive because we'd need to address separately each of the things they were accusing me of.”

Nintendo Not Limiting Itself To Free-To-Play, Will Lead Mobile Development

Nintendo Not Limiting Itself To Free-To-Play, Will Lead Mobile Development

Yesterday, Nintendo announced a dramatic reversal in its position on mobile gaming. At a joint press conference with DeNA, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that his company’s intellectual property would be the basis for a number of upcoming mobile titles.

Given DeNA’s extensive history of developing free-to-play titles, as well as Nintendo’s own dabbling with that business model, expectations of a similar focus here weren’t unreasonable. However, Iwata says that he’s not ruling out premium titles.

In an interview with Time, he explains his reasoning. “The free-to-start model will naturally be an option for us to consider,” Iwata says. “On the other hand, even in the world of smart device apps, the business model continues to change. Accordingly, for each title, we will discuss with DeNA and decide the most appropriate payment method.”

A little over two years have passed since Blizzard released StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the second installment in the three-part sequel. The developer still hasn't offered word on when the third act, Legacy of the Void, is set to release, but we do have new information on an upcoming closed beta.

Blizzard is issuing invites to a closed beta for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void starting on Tuesday, March 31. Beta access will only be offered to a select few at first, with the pool broadening as testing goes on. Fans can look forward to checking out new units like the Protoss' disc-tossing Adept and the missile-firing Terran Cyclone tank. Three maps will be included in the closed beta; Ruin of Seras, Lerilak Crest, and Orbital Shipyard. The first two are set within ancient ruins, while the third takes place on a floating starship repair platform.

For more nitty gritty tweaks coming to multiplayer in the closed beta, check out the video below.

3DS Dreamcast Theme Is A Treat For Your Ears

3DS Dreamcast Theme Is A Treat For Your Ears

The Sega Dreamcast may not have stuck around as long as Sega may have hoped, but it left a lasting impression on fans. Sega of Japan is releasing a Dreamcast theme for the Nintendo 3DS that reskins the UI and provides a faithful audio recreation of the retro console's startup – warts and all.

As pointed out by Redditor nolaredditor the theme goes a step beyond a simple visual tweak. It adds the sounds of the Dreamcast's startup sequence, including the whir of fans, the chattering and grinding of the console's disc drive, and the long beep of the VMU. I remember wondering if there was something wrong with my system when I first set it up, but I quickly got used to all the noise. This is a great reminder of those days.
