Hong Kong Massacre's PS4 Release Slightly Delayed For America

Indie game Hong Kong Massacre, a stylish new Hotline Miami-like by developer Vreski, came out recently on PC and PlayStation 4. The PC release is available worldwide, while the PlayStation 4 release appears to have only come out in Europe and Australia only. While a PS4 release was scheduled for America at the same time, it seems to be delayed, and the developer isn't saying why.

We are releasing THKM a bit earlier on steam and it is available NOW!. It looks like the PS4 version in America will not be released on the 22nd, this is something out of our control and we apologize for this. In Europe and Australia it is now available on PS4 Thanks, VRESKI

We are really sorry, but this is something out of our control. The latest it will be out is 31st January, that is all we know at the moment.

The Wii Shop Channel Closes Forever Next Week

The Wii Shop Channel Closes Forever Next Week

Digital distribution is an interesting thing, but it's still no doubt going through some growing pains. The question often arises of what happens when a company just decides to close up and shut down the shop, but it hasn't been too big an issue so far. That will change at the end of this week, when Nintendo becomes the biggest player in the game to shut down a digital distribution shop, effectively ending the ability to download or re-download anything from the Wii Shop.

The shutdown, which was announced on Nintendo's support website, means that the Wii Shop servers will no longer be accessible. So if there's games you have paid for but do not currently have downloaded on your Wii, you have until January 30 to get them onto the system memory or associated SD card. This means WiiWare games and Virtual Console titles, as well as any content that needs to be downloaded, like channels. In theory, Skyward Sword's patch can no longer be downloaded, thus leaving a progress-blocking glitch in the game forever.

Transfers from Wii to Wii U will also be impossible unless the Wii transfer channel is already downloaded.

Cyberpunk 2077's Creative Director Joins Blizzard

Cyberpunk 2077's Creative Director Joins Blizzard

It hasn't been that long since Cyberpunk 2077 wowed media at E3 with its slick style and free-flow design, and an even shorter time since they did so publicly. The game has been kind of quiet since then as Polish developers CD Projekt Red has been working on the ambitious title, though now it seems to be without their original creative director, Sebastian Stępień, as he seemingly moves on to Blizzard.

As discovered by a user on video game message board ResetEra, Stępień's LinkedIn profile now mentions that he has joined Blizzard as creative director of an unnamed project. The project likely is not one that has already been announced, but it is easy to speculate that Stępień's skills might make a lot of sense on the rumored Diablo projects in the works at the company, especially with Blizzard suggesting they're looking to shake up the standard formula.

Stępień had been at CDPR for 12 years prior to his departure, which LinkedIn does not list a date for on his profile. He helped shepherd the entire Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 as a dialogue writer, narrative director, story designer, and creative director. It will be interesting to see what he has in store at Blizzard.

Don't Starve Together Devs Reveal DLC Plans for 2019

Don't Starve Together developer Klei laid out its DLC plans for the upcoming year in a blog post yesterday, highlighting character refreshes, seasonal events, and new biomes coming to its Tim Burton-esque roguelike.

Klei will roll out four new characters with unique abilities beginning mid-March for $6.99 USD (price not final), with a new character releasing every other month. The developer says this is how it will fund the remainder of its content, which it wants to give away for free, but players can also use Spools, Don't Starve's in-game currency, to unlock each new character.

The original suite of characters will be getting some love too. Beginning in March with Winona, each character will have their abilities revamped, with new backstories to boot. A new character will refresh every month after, with new skins available the month of their reset.

Reminder: You Have A Week To Get Your Smash Bros. Piranha Plant Code

Reminder: You Have A Week To Get Your Smash Bros. Piranha Plant Code

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's first bit of post-launch content is coming in the form of a controversial character choice, the Super Mario Bros. enemy Piranha Plant. The team wasn't able to finish work on the character before the game launched last month, so he's coming for free in February for everyone who has bought and registered Super Smash Bros. Ultimate before January 31, which means time is running out to do so.

If you bought a physical copy of the game, you need to register the cart through the Switch home menu. After that, Nintendo will send an email to the address associated with the account with a code to plug into the eShop and get Piranha Plant when it is made available next month. If you bought the game digitally, it's already registered, and Nintendo likely sent you the code already. In either case, check your spam folders, because it might have ended up in there.

While you have until June to actually redeem the code, you only have until the end of this month to register the game for it. Otherwise, Piranha Plant will be on sale as a DLC character. Despite being DLC, the monstrous plant is not considered part of the game's expansion pass, which begins with Joker from Persona 5. Four more DLC characters are still to be revealed, with rumors swirling that Dragon Quest might occupy the next slot.
