Payday Developer Starbreeze Announces Move Into Publishing With Raid: World War II

Starbreeze, the developer behind the Payday franchise, has announced that it is opening a publishing business. The company has signed its first client, Croatian-based Lion Game Lion’s Raid: World War II.

In an announcement, Starbreeze says it will be focused on becoming a “catalyst for developer’s success.” Those that work with Starbreeze will be encouraged to retain part ownership of their intellectual property.

The model put forward sounds similar to Devolver Digital, which has been at the forefront of indie-friendly publishing. We reached out to Devolver to find out how its IP ownership terms compare. “Devolver does not own any part of the IPs of their partners,” a representative told us via email.

Another Ubisoft Studio Joins Development Of The Division

Ubisoft’s anticipated post-viral MMO, The Division, just got a new partner. The project, headed up by Ubisoft Massive, already includes Red Storm (Ghost Recon) and Reflections (Driver). Now, Ubisoft Annecy has been added to the project.

Annecy was behind the much-loved multiplayer of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow on the original Xbox. It also worked on the same segment of Chaos Theory, Double Agent, and Assassin’s Creed’s cat-and-mouse multiplayer featured in Brotherhood and beyond.

This studio also handled two well-known hubs in Assassin’s Creed titles. If you upgraded Assassin’s Creed II’s Villa or spent time in Unity’s Café Théâtre, you’ve experienced Ubisoft Annecy’s work.

The Devs Play episode is produced by 2 Player Productions, the talented creators of Double Fine's making-of documentary for Broken Age. Igarashi is joined by Anna Kipnis, senior gameplay programmer at Double Fine, and Ben Judd, a video game agent for DDM who acts as translator here. Igarashi trades the controller back and forth with Kipnis as he discusses the game's engine, the music behind the game, how those candles get replaced every time Alucard knocks them down, and much more.

In-Game Dying Light Hint Suggests Release Date For Bozak Horde DLC

Techland's first-person, open-world zombie-apocalypse game is set in a ruined city, scattered with hundreds of broken-down vehicles. Among Dying Light's derelict vehicles are some taxi cabs, each with a number to call the fictional dispatcher. Curious gamers are finding that calling the number suggests a specific release date for the next DLC offering.

Previously, callers who punched in the California number (+1 661-320-4746, call it yourself!) were greeted by an emergency message tying in with the post-apocalyptic setting. At some unknown time the message was replaced by one with a gravelly voiced man saying to visit the stadium on May 26, where Bozak will judge them. Listen to it below.

Conan O'Brien Takes On Witcher 3 In Latest Clueless Gamer

Conan O'Brien is back to his old tricks in the newest installment of his Clueless Gamer series, in which he takes on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He's joined be co-host Aaron Bleyaert, who gamely tries to explain the back story and lore to an increasingly distracted Conan.

If you're looking for an in-depth look at the game, bear in mind that this is called Clueless Gamer. This is more about talking to the same NPC repeatedly, walking into them, and getting more and more sexually frustrated. Conan finally finds what he's looking for on that last bit, though it happens in a way that I doubt anyone could have expected.
