Final Fantasy XV's Entirely Drops Versus XII's Heroine Stella, Episode Duscae 2.0 Next Week

about X hours ago from

In a new episode of Square Enix's Active Time Report this morning, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata shared new details about the title. This includes three major ways the narrative has changed after transitioning from its old framing as Versus XIII.

In Versus XIII's original story, penned by Final Fantasy veteran Kazushige Nojima, Final Fantasy XV protagonist Noctis had a female counterpart. Stella was positioned as the heroine of that story. She will no longer appear in the game.

"We wanted to keep her as a heroine in Final Fantasy XV's story, and persued ways to tie her in to FFXV's design as well," Tabata says. "But we found it increasingly difficult to make sense of Stella's character and role within FFXV. So then we thought, do weant to recreate Stella with a different role and image, or do we want to start over with a new heroine? And after a lot of consideration, we decided not to include Stella in FFXV."

We know things have been busy this week, with a flood of exciting announcements and teases for E3. However, we're going to ask you to take a moment to look back with us.

As we do every month, we want to know what your game of the month for May was.  The month started strong with Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, continued with 4X strategy thanks to Galactic Civilizations and solid RPG action with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The month closed with one of this year's big surprises, Splatoon.

There were far more titles to arrive in May, of course. If you need a refresher course, check out our regularly updated guide to this year's releases.

Mistwalker isn't stopping there, though. The developer has announced a new set of download milestones. These include both in-game and corollary materials.

Here's what's coming as the Terra Battle community grows and more people download the game:

The PlayStation Store pulled the trigger a little early on announcing a bundle of the PlayStation 3 Uncharted titles. There aren't many details yet, but we do know we should find out more today.

The image appears on the mobile version of the PlayStation Store (from which we capture the above banner), and was spotted and shared by Greg Miller of Kinda Funny late Wednesday night and remains there now. Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann confirms the news, and indicates that the reveal was intended for this morning.

"Well... that hit a few hours too early. See you in the AM," he writes. "G'night y'all."

Today 2K Sports confirmed a rumor that floated through the websphere last April – He Got Game director Spike Lee is taking the reins of the MyCareer story mode for NBA 2K16.

Today several newspaper outlets are reporting that the longtime basketball fan has shot 90 minutes of "cinematic narrative" for the popular story mode, which places players in the role of an up and coming basketball star named Frequency Vibrations. "We follow a kid through the trials and tribulations of being a top high school player and the decisions he has to make," Lee told USA Today.

2K Sports also revealed the trio of NBA stars gracing the cover of the game this year – Houston Rockets guard James Harden, New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis, and reigning NBA MVP Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors, who squares off against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals starting tonight.
