Firaxis Wants You To Play PC-Only XCOM 2 Forever, With The Help Of Modders

Earlier this month, 2K and Firaxis announced a sequel to 2012's XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Unlike its predecessor though, XCOM 2 is (at least for now) a PC exclusive.

Speaking with IGN, XCOM 2 lead producer Garth DeAngelis and creative director Jake Solomon explain that the game they are making embraces the mod community. The studio plans to release a developer kit so users can work in the heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3 upon which XCOM 2 is built.

"Because we're a Firaxis game, we're committed to this idea of player value," Solomon told IGN. "We want our players to play our games forever, and so we want to have this sort of vibrant community around the game,” he said. “We want people to talk, to communicate with us, and for our games to have this really long life cycle, because that increases the value of our games.”

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Is Getting A Physical Release

It's certainly not Bethesda's biggest announcement this month, but this one is of note to those who prefer their games on disc. The publisher has announced that its latest Wolfenstein title, The Old Blood, is getting a retail release.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a prequel to 2014's The New Order. Even in its original digital release, it wasn't set up as DLC. Instead, Machine Games built and Bethesda published it as an affordable, standalone experience.

You'll be able to pick up a physical copy of BJ's latest bloody on July 21 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. For more, check out our review.

Masahiro Sakurai Is Hosting A Smash Bros. Video Presentation On June 14

Nintendo's E3 digital presentation is scheduled for 9 a.m. Pacific / 12 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, June 16. If you're a Super Smash Bros. fan, you'll also want to set your alarm clock early this coming Sunday.

Game director Masahiro Sakurai will host a video presentation on June 14 at 7:40 a.m. Pacific / 10:40 a.m. Eastern. It will cover the release of Lucas, the new Miiverse stage, and Mii Fighter Splatoon costumes.

Lucas will be available at 8 a.m. Pacific that morning, which leads us to believe this will announcement won't last much longer than 20 minutes. We'll see all three pieces of content in action, but any other surprises (like other upcoming characters) might be held until the formal digital presentation at 9 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, June 16.
