Harmonix Announces Guitar Solos, A Release Date, And More Songs

Harmonix announced today two key elements of their upcoming rhythm game Rock Band 4: A release date of October 6 and the introduction of a new gameplay element: Freestyle Guitar Solos, which we tested out at a recent hands-on event in Santa Monica.

The newest iteration returns to the original roots: shredding your guitar. The Freestyle Guitar Solo doesn't have a specific set of notes like other portions of the gameplay. Instead, several different cues are linked to a specific type of play. While following these guidelines is tantamount for scoring the most points, if you decide that your power ballad needs some 250 BPM thrashing, you can add that if you'd really like.

Single note cues allow each fret to play a particular note (always in key of the song), and depending on which set of keys on the guitar controller is used, higher or lower notes will be played. Moving the neck of the guitar changes the feedback tone and notes can be "bent" by strumming up and holding.

Gears Of War 4 Announced At E3 2015

At E3 2015 during the Xbox press conference, Black Tusk's upcoming Gears of War 4 was officially announced.

We know that Gears of War was going to be at E3, but it was nice to see an actual demo that showcased some of the action. We saw two new characters with a fast-paced chase, massive buildings being destroyed, shredding through gates, and a terrifying encounter with some new enemies. The environment was covered by a bunch of corruption, which could be emulsion. The game will be headed exclusively to the Xbox One during the holidays of 2016.

Check out or wishlist of what we want to see from the next Gears of War.

Rare came out of hiding not only to talk about its 30-game retrospective collection, but also a new multiplayer pirates title called Sea of Thieves.

Rare studio head Craig Duncan characterized the MMo-like game as a title built around bringing multiple gamers together in the large world.

Players can pilot and explore islands with others aboard their pirate ship, engage other ships (including engaging in ship-to-ship combat with cannonballs and ship ramming), and even make crew members walk the plank above shark-infested waters.

Rise of the Tomb Raider's E3 showcase showed Lara struggling during a mountain climb, and also announced a November release date.

The video showcase of Tomb Raider saw Lara struggling to climb a snowy mountain with Jonah, who appeared in the first game. It's actually the same demo we saw when the game appeared on our cover, which you can read more about here.

Along with the snowy landscape, we also saw Lara exploring more tropical locations trading her jacket for her iconic tank top.
