Don't Count On Ever Playing The Canceled SNES Star Fox 2

about X hours ago from

During our conversation with Shigeru Miyamoto about Star Fox Zero, he mentioned that some of the features were originally planned for a canceled game. Star Fox 2 never saw the light of day on Super Nintendo, but fans have been interested in checking it out (even in a possibly rough state).

Miyamoto hinted that we shouldn't expect that to happen, unfortunately. "I think it's ok for Star Fox 2 to jsut remain a memory," he tells us. "I think the things I wanted to achieve in Star Fox 2 I'm doing in this game."

One of the Arwing's transformations, the dinosaur-like Walker mode, was one of the core ideas that originally appeared in the abandoned sequel.  Miyamoto says that doing it so much later though with the graphical fidelity of the Wii U led to more complex (and visually attractive) transformations.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Arrives Early 2016

about X hours ago from

Square Enix showcased public gameplay footage from Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for the first time on the Square Enix press-conference stage, and revealed a release window.

The video saw Adam Jensen exploring the slums of his home city, riding in a helicopter to a job where he had strict no-kill orders, and attacking plenty of enemies. Jensen electrocuted a group with a widespread taser and shot through a fruit stand – a popular trailer inclusion ever since Solid Snake shot up watermelons in Metal Gear Solid 2's debut.

Star Fox Zero Began As A Prototype For The Original Wii

about X hours ago from

During an interview earlier this week with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, we spoke about the origins of Star Fox Zero. As we discussed the series legacy, Miyamoto revealed to us that Star Fox is a much more important property to Nintendo than we previously understood.

Star Fox has been a testing ground for Nintendo consoles, with Miyamoto using the series to put the hardware through its paces. "I work very closely with the programmer of Star Fox 64. Basically, every time we get new hardware, we do a Star Fox prototype."

Star Fox Zero began its life as one of these. "This Star Fox started out being based on a prototype we created for the Wii," he tells us. "We took that prototype and thought about what we could do with it. We came back and just said that this should be a Star Fox game."

Obviously, Star Fox Zero has come a long way since its humble origins. The two-screen play wouldn't have been possible on the original Wii, and the game certainly look as pretty as it does in HD at 60 frames per second on the Wii U.

Hands On With Star Fox Zero

about X hours ago from

Shigeru Miyamoto greeted a room full of journalists following a private screening of this year's E3 Nintendo Direct to discuss Star Fox Zero's gameplay functionality on Wii U. He began his talk with the enthusiastic smile we've seen every year he's taken the stage to introduce a new Nintendo surprise. "I've been making games for about 35 years," Miaymoto said. "I'm not tired of it. I still love making them. It's my favorite thing."

During the Nintendo Direct presentation, we learned Miyamoto drew inspiration for Star Fox from Japanese culture, specifically the arches at Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine, and the marionette-led science-fiction TV show, Thunderbirds. Interestingly, the show combines marionette puppets and special effects using a filming technique called "Supermarionation."
