Is Batman: Arkham Knight's 'A Matter Of Family' DLC Worth Your Time?

about X hours ago from

Batman: Arkham Knight's first significant story DLC, A Matter of Family, is available today exclusively for season pass holders. If you didn't throw down the big bucks for the season pass, you'll have to wait until July 21 to download it. A Matter of Family is a prequel story to Arkham Asylum that places Batgirl in the starring role against a healthy and ever-vocal Joker. The DLC will retail for $6.99.

Given where your interests in the Arkham games lie, A Matter of Family is fairly cut and dried as to whether you should play it or not. If Arkham's story doesn't interest you, and you simply play these games to experience cool Batman action moments, no, you shouldn't waste your time with this DLC. Developer WB Montreal can be commended for creating a wonderfully realized version of Batgirl, who is resourceful and capable of striking fear into Joker's henchmen, but the mission she embarks on lacks creativity and ranks among the Arkham series' worst.

Deep Silver Drops Yager As Developer Of Dead Island 2

Deep Silver has announced that while Dead Island 2 is still in development, it is handing the reins to someone else. The publisher has announced that it is parting ways with Yager.

This news comes during a rough time for Deep Silver, which saw the delay of Dead Island 2 out of this calendar year. Homefront: The Revolution was also bumped due to problems at developer Crytek, which saw Deep Silver transfer the game to its own newly found Dambuster studio.

"With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve,” the company says in a prepared statement. “After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage."

King Leoric's unique relationship with the afterlife gives him an edge on the battlefield. His trait, Undying, completely changes the way the character handles death. Once killed, Leoric becomes a ghost but stays in play. His death timer counts down normally, but he can still navigate the field and use a few of his abilities. Skeletal Swing slows enemies without dealing damage, and Drain Hope lowers his death timer. When Leoric comes back to the living, he rejoins play wherever his ghost is positioned.

Quakecon To Host Five Charities, The Most In Convention's History

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Quakecon, an annual convention hosted by publisher Zenimax Media. In celebration of the two past decades, Quakecon will be hosting five charities: American Red Cross, Take This, Dallas Pets Alive, Extra Life, and DFW Nerd Night.

Most people know of American Red Cross, a charity based on donating blood. Considering we perform an annual 24 hour live stream in the name of Extra Life, many readers have likely heard of that non-profit as well. Take This seeks to educate gamers on mental health issues, raising awareness at Quakecon by hosting a quiet room so stressed attendees can step away from the frenetic energy of the convention.

The other two non-profits attending the convention are local. Dallas Pets Alive aims to prevent the killing of companion animals by distributing programs and helping families adopt at-risk dogs and cats. At Quakecon, this non-profit will present a raffle for those who adopt one of their pets or donate to the organization. DFW Nerd Night chooses a new charity each month, supporting the selected charity through large gaming events. For July, they decided on Big Brothers & Sisters of North Texas.

Here Are All Of The Tracks Confirmed To Appear In The Guitar Hero Live Song List So Far [UPDATED: 7/14/2015]

With Guitar Hero making its big return this year, Activision is coming out swinging with the songs available at release. Back in April, the publisher told us that it will feature "hundreds" of songs at launch in the GHTV mode of the game alone, and with "Tracklist Tuesday" making it a weekly event to learn more about what we'll be shredding along to when Guitar Hero Live releases, the setlist is shaping up to feature a diverse collection of songs from a wide array of artists and genres.

If you haven't kept up with all of the announcements, you can check out the updated official soundtrack to this point below. If you'd like to compare this to what is appearing on Rock Band 4's disc, you can check out the running list dedicated to Harmonix's game here.

Activision and FreeStyle Games have not clarified which mode each of the songs will be available for, but these are the songs that will be playable at launch. If you'd like to learn more about how the newest Guitar Hero plays, you can check out our hands-on impressions.

According to the blog post, both games have been updated to "feature full HD rendering, improved framerate, and higher resolution textures and effects." As we reported last night, all of the downloadable content from the games are included in this bundle as well (including "a majority" of the retailer exclusive pre-order DLC).
