Report Ouya Closure Means Free The Games Developers Lose Owed Money

about X hours ago from

The writing was on the wall for Ouya for a number of months leading up to yesterday’s announcement of a partial asset buyout by Razer. While the Ouya name will live on, only its technical and developer relations staff remain onboard. Hardware and outstanding company commitments have ceased to exist.

One such commitment was the troubled Free the Games program that was designed to lock up timed exclusivity in exchange for cash incentives. According to a report by Motherboard, a number of developers are out thousands of dollars.

Because of a clause in the contract, there’s nothing they can do about it either. Ouya included a section that gives the company an out from its obligations in the case of bankruptcy or insolvency.

Extreme Extermination Challenge Is A Wacky Alien Game Show Made With Rockstar Editor

about X hours ago from

Welcome to Extreme Extermination Challenge, in which Exterminator contestants play for big prizes (and raising the one true deity, Steve, from his ancient slumber). We’ve seen a number of creative uses for the Rockstar Editor, but this one takes things in a very strange direction.

Watch as the two contestants, Glrop and The Narp Narp, compete in the first round of Lee Iovino’s odd creation. There’s humiliation, golf clubs, and a molotov cocktail as the two Exterminators try to earn points at the expense of puny humans.

Fallout 4 ‘Is Essentially Done,’ Says Bethesda’s Pete Hines

If you were worried about the short lead time between Fallout 4’s announcement and its November release, this should put your mind at ease. Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines has some good news about the anticipated game’s progress.

Appearing on an episode of Bonus Round with Geoff Keighley, Adam Sessler, and Game Informer executive editor Andrew Reiner, Hines gleefully talked about the footage shown at QuakeCon. In addition to discussion about the new VATS system, real-time combat, and weapon customization, he addressed the development status of the tile.

“Not to over-exaggerate, but the game is essentially done,” Hines said. “When you talk about what else you are doing, all we’re doing is taking what exists and polishing it and fixing bugs. It’s not like you work until November 9 and then November 10 it’s out. You have to make discs and do this other stuff. They are finishing the game. That’s all they’re doing this summer.”

First Mafia III Trailer Coming August 5

about X hours ago from

After an goof with its domain registrations revealed the existence of Mafia III, 2K has dropped all pretense. The publisher has confirmed the game this morning as well as when we’ll get our first look.

Mafia III will be revealed on August 5 at 8 a.m. Eastern. You’ll be able to watch the trailer on the official YouTube channel (and we’ll have it posted as soon as we can).

While the game is being revealed during Gamescom, it doesn’t seem like it will have more of a presence than that at the show. Perhaps 2K will surprise us though, and we’ll have more on which we can report.

Rise Of The Triad Is $3 Today To Celebrate Soundtrack Release

Rise Of The Triad Is $3 Today To Celebrate Soundtrack Release

Interceptor Entertainment is slashing the price on its 2013 throwback shooter, Rise of the Triad. The game is currently discounted on Steam to $2.99, an 80 percent savings.

Rise of the Triad is a callback to the days of rocket jumping, blindingly fast circle strafing, and days when it was still weird to have baseball bats with eyeballs in them as a weapon of destruction. There’s a healthy community creating multiplayer levels, including some with the original tileset.

The temporary price cut, which expires at 10 a.m. Pacific / 1 p.m. Eastern tomorrow, celebrates the release of the game’s soundtrack. You can purchase that for $6.99 on its own Steam page. There you can also listen to samples of the game's tunes.
