In an update trailer for the upcoming Japanese release of Persona 5 Royal, developer Atlus showed off some updates to palaces and battles to make the Phantom Thieves even more stylish. While the video is in Japanese, there is enough information in what is shown to cast educated speculation on some of the game's changes.

The trailer shows off a number of combat updates, including purchasing bullets and customizing guns to use elemental effects in battle. In the base game, bullets could inflict status effects, like despair or fear. Now bullets will be capable of striking with elemental effects that were previously attached exclusively to player skills, like electricity or fire.

Another update is Joker's use of the grappling hook. While the hook was shown off in Joker's Smash Bros. appearance, fans had yet to see it in the actual game. Now, in the trailer, you can see the grappling hook being used for palace traversal, dodging traps and crossing gaps, but it can also be used to start a battle from a distance. If you see an enemy walking around in the palace, you can grapple yourself right to it, leading to a quick battle in your favor.

No Man's Sky was a game that became infamous for undelivered promises way before Anthem did. But even after all this time and harsh criticisms, the developers did not give up hope and worked hard to make the game into what they knew it could be. The community is very happy with what the game has become and the thought of it getting better moving forward is beyond what they could have hoped for.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Is A Total Game Changer

If you’ve played one Lego game, you’ve played them all. As much as I love the Lego games, I usually know what I’m in for when they boot up. That all changes with The Skywalker Saga. TT Games has completely rebuilt its engine and reimagined its classic Lego formula, and the results speak for themselves. (Actually, results can’t speak, so I’ll do that for them. The results say: This game rules.)

One of the biggest changes for this new Lego game is the camera, which now sits behind the shoulders of each character. The game looks great, the worlds are highly detailed, and the Lego characters have a nice fluid animation.

The Skywalker Saga not only looks different, it plays different. Have you heard of combos? Because TT Games has. Now characters can perform a series of attack combos. Of course, you can still button mash your way through most encounters, but you’ll also have more attack options in combat. The behind-the-shoulder camera also highlights the new shooting mechanics, which are now more precise and feel more like a third-person shooter (think of an adorable Gears of War).

Google’s Stadia presents an interesting promise. We went hands on with the service when it was reveaeed at GDC, but we got to try it again at E3, and were impressed with how well Doom Eternal ran (in HD only, because 4K isn’t available yet). Thankfully, during our demo, we got the chance to clear the air about a few misconceptions that have circulated around the topic of game streaming.

How will Stadia handle small text and other fine details when users play games on their phone? Obviously, some things won’t read as easily on the phone as they do on a living room television.

The official line from Google is, “We're working with developers to optimize their game design and experiences for each screen. Stadia games will be responsive to the screens they play on, so things like font sizes will be appropriate per device/screen.” That sounds promising, but we’ll have to wait until closer to launch to see how every game works on phones.

Dota Underlords, Valve's Auto Chess Title, Comes To Steam Today

Auto Chess is an increasingly popular genre on PC and mobile, and you can play Valve's take on it today, Dota Underlords, if you have a Dota 2 battlepass. If you don't have one, you can join in the open beta when it goes live in about a week. If you're not sure what the heck Auto Chess is, don't be alarmed – we have a few resources for you here and here.

Valve's take on the genre makes a few small changes that we can see already in these beta stages, such as letting players pick items after creep (NPC) rounds from a pool, further allowing them to tailor their strategies and reducing reliance on randomness from getting loot from NPC enemies. Some of the effects are quite powerful, ranging from skills that buff entire classes of units or adding one to your unit cap (For non-Auto Chess players, these are incredibly powerful game altering effects that don't exist in the "Classic" version of Auto Chess).

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is shaping up to be a really solid entry in the franchise. If you want to know more about that game, you can read Brian Shea’s hands-on impressions from the show. However, we also got the chance to speak with producer Kensuke Tanabe who shared his thoughts on the wild world of Nintendo.

What is Gooigi’s deal? Where did that idea come from?

When I first saw the Nintendo Switch system, the fact that you can split the two JoyCons and share it with someone else to play together was such a great thing that we really wanted to take advantage of that for this game. We began to think about how to create that second player. We at Nintendo were kind of experimenting with different ways that we can have two people play at the same time, and one of them was to make a copy of Luigi, so just having two Luigis on the screen. While we were doing that, the team happened to be experimenting with using a goo-like material for ghosts. They were like, "What if we gave them a little more substance and made them out of goo?" And then those two ideas came together.

Clarification Update: Wolfenstein's official social page has released statement clarifying that microtransactions are in fact cosmetic only:

Original Story (June 13 at  1:20 PM Central): We recently had the chance to go hands-on with MachineGames' upcoming Wolfenstein title, Youngblood. During our session, we learned that the game would have microtransactions, with the player able to buy cosmetics as well as weapon upgrades and attachments with real world money if they choose.

MachineGames was explicit in saying that you could get these items with in-game currency and that spending real world money would just speed up the process to acquiring them. The closest comparison one may draw is to Ubisoft's progress enhancers microtransactions in Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Far Cry 5.

When Tales if Arise was announced at Microsoft's Xbox conference, fans of the series experienced a moment of exhilaration and then hours to days of concerned questions. Ever since the reveal, which showed a more technologically advanced Tales game than the previous titles, fans had been wondering exactly how this title is going to change up a fairly traditional series.

We sat down with Yusuke Tomizawa, the new producer of the Tales series after Hideo Baba left the company, to discuss the newest Tales game. Tomizawa himself had a sticker of Sans from Undertale on his laptop, a game which he professes a fandom for. It has been a few years Tales of Berseria, which crossed generations with both a PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 version, making Tales of Arise the first game in the series completely untethered to the previous generation and built solely for modern hardware. In the trailer, it looked like the game might be leveraging that technology for an open world RPG similar to games like Xenoblade X or The Witcher 3. Not so, according Tomizawa.

While screenshots and the initial trailer somewhat suggested an open world title, the structure of Tales of Arise is similar to other Tales games. Tomizawa pointed out that the reveal trailer had no UI, so suspicions about a lack of world map are not correct.

At a one minute and 30 seconds long, it doesn't seem like it's the full theme that will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later this year alongside Banjo-Kazooie as a playable fighter, but it's always exciting to hear new Smash Bros. arrangements. We heard this song during Banjo-Kazooie's announcement trailer, but it's nice to have it standalone without all those messy sound effects on top.
