Xenoblade Chronicles X Data Packs Speed Up Loading, Available Now

It’s no secret that Xenoblade Chronicles X is going to have a massive world, and that could put a strain on your Wii U. That’s why Nintendo is releasing four separate data packs that players can download in advance to speed up the loading process when the game releases on December 4.

The downloads are designed to improve performance in specific categories. The basic pack broadly covers elements of the open world, the enemy pack loads enemy data faster, the player data pack covers armor and equipment, and the skell pack makes the large robots load faster. These are available as four separate downloads, but you should strongly consider grabbing all of them – assuming you have enough free space. Each one is in the 2GB neighborhood (some more, some less).

These packs should be available to Wii U owners right now, as of the conclusion of today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.

Splatoon Gets Title Update With Winter Gear, New Maps

Splatoon has become known for its free updates and during today's Nintendo Direct, we got a glimpse at the next wave of content for the frantic multiplayer shooter. In addition to adding in some new weapons and winter-themed gear, two new maps will be worked into the rotation.

The first new map is Museum D'Alfonsino, which features five unique obstacles that can be used to your advantage if you know how. The second map is Mahi Mahi Resort, a water-heavy map that can easily spell disaster for your Inkling if you fall in. During the final moments of the match, the water level lowers, revealing all new areas to spray your ink on and completely changing the dynamic of a match in the final moments.

The update with the weapons and winter items hits today at 5 p.m. Pacific, while Museum D'Alfonsino will begin working into the map playlists tomorrow at 6 p.m. Pacific. Nintendo also announced that it will continue to support Splatoon through free updates such as this one through January 2016.

Nintendo Confirms New Legend Of Zelda Still Coming To Wii U In 2016

Following its delay out of 2015, many speculated that Nintendo could opt to push its upcoming entry in the Legend of Zelda franchise to its new platform, codenamed NX. Nintendo shot down that prediction today with the confirmation that the new Legend of Zelda is still slotted to hit the Wii U and will hold a 2016 release date.

The news, which comes on the heels of the announcement of Twilight Princess HD and a new Midna/Wolf Link Amiibo, also comes with news that some data from that Amiibo's use in Twilight Princess HD will transfer to the new Legend of Zelda. Nintendo did not indicate what that data would be or if it hints at some common themes between the two games.

While we still don't have a firm release date or many hard details about what the adventure will bring players, we do know that the Legend of Zelda will hit Wii U in 2016.

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Hits Wii U In Early 2016

After several rumors during recent months, Nintendo has officially announced the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U. The game will feature enhanced visuals, as well as Amiibo functionality with a brand new Wolf Link Amiibo.

The other Zelda Amiibos from the Super Smash Bros. line of figures will also work with Twilight Princess HD. Some data from the Amiibos in Twilight Princess HD will carry forward to the upcoming Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U, but Nintendo did not specify what that data is. In addition, Twilight Princess HD will feature a special offer to allow players to get a copy of the Twilight Princess soundtrack to those who pre-order.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD hits Wii U on March 4 and is being supported by Tantalus Media. Earlier this year, we asked our readers which Zelda game they wanted for the next HD re-release, with Twilight Princess emerging as the clear winner

Battlefield 4 To Receive Free Legacy Operations DLC Later This Year

about X hours ago from

It’s only been a few months since Battlefield 4’s last free update, but DICE is rolling out even more content for the over two-year old shooter. Legacy Operations is available free of charge later this year and features the return of a fan-favorite map.

The centerpiece of the DLC is Dragon Valley 2015, a re-imagined version of the classic map that first appeared in Battlefield 2. This is the result of a poll DICE conducted last year asking fans which previous maps fans would like to see remade.

Dragon Valley was originally a large, vehicle friendly map, and that remains the case in the 2015 version, which features a huge number of flags and destructible/repairable bridges. Tweaks made to the map include improved draw distance and terrain, as well as the addition of Rush mode. Check out a highlight reel of play-testing sessions in the video below.
