Dragon Quest V Getting Animated CG Adaptation In Japan

Dragon Quest V Getting Animated CG Adaptation In Japan

Among Dragon Quest fans, there's usually hot debate over what game in the series is actually the best. Dragon Quest III was the culmination of a three-game arc, VIII brought the series into 3D, XI brought the artstyle to life in a way that hadn't been possible before. For my money, Dragon Quest V stands above them all, and it seems the Japanese movie industry agrees, as an animated film adaptation of the game has been announced for release in 2019.

Titled Dragon Quest: Your Story, the movie adapts the tale of the Dragon Quest hero with an extraordinary ability to relate with monsters. The story of the game takes place over 30 years of the protagonist's life and involves his family, getting married, having children, and a quest to rid the world of a tormenting captor.

Apex Legends Valentine's Day Update Encourages Loving Your Team

Apex Legends has not been out long, but the game has already gotten its first update wrapped up in a neat little Valentine's Day theme. No one has to be lonely when you're in a three-person squad climbing your way to the top of the battle royale!

The patch notes, which were posted today on Reddit, don't name a lot of changes, but there are a few for new updates for the season. There are two new cosmetic items to earn to follow the Valentine's Day theme, including the “Through the Heart” Longbow Epic DMR skin and the "Love of the Game" Pathfinder banner frame.

Additionally, a new badge has been added for players to get from now until later next week. Starting today, if you revive a player on your team, you'll get a "Live Die Live" badge. You only have until February 19 to do so, so make sure you show one of your teammates that they're your special Valentine.

Street Fighter V Glitch Lets Blanka Stop Time, Banned At Evo Japan

Street Fighter V Glitch Lets Blanka Stop Time, Banned At Evo Japan

Street Fighter V players have discovered a glitch that lets Blanka get free hits on the opponent and set up ridiculous combos, but both Capcom and Evo Japan are already cracking down on it.

The glitch was discovered early yesterday, as players online found themselves facing off against what looked like a new ability in Blanka's (shown here in his "Blanka-Chan" outfit) toolkit: The ability to freeze time. Essentially, by precisely canceling his super animation into his "Surprise Forward" or "Surprise Back" abilities (the ones where he does a quick hop), players can move around during the short "super flash" animation, rendering their opponent helpless as they are prevented from moving, blocking, or attacking during this short time period. It's quick, but long enough to be immensely powerful.

Players quickly began replicating and capitalizing on the glitch, going into training mode and pumping out new, absurd Blanka combos.

Where's Our Crackdown 3 Review?

Where's Our Crackdown 3 Review?

Crackdown 3 is out tomorrow, and reviews are starting to hit online. Ours won't be among them, however, since I haven't had the opportunity to play the game's Wrecking Zone multiplayer on live servers. That's not to say I haven't formed an opinion on what I have played of the campaign mode.

First, the good news: Controlling the Agent is great, and it captures a large part of what made the original game so enjoyable. I've had a lot of fun completing various parkour challenges and collecting the orbs scattered throughout New Providence.

Unfortunately, the rest of the campaign hews far too closely to the original. If you loved that game and haven't spent much time with other open-world titles, it might be easy to forgive its lack of innovation. I play a lot of sandbox games, and Crackdown 3's stubborn adherence to gameplay systems from 12 years ago make the campaign feel stale overall.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey February Update Adds New Game+ And New Story Content

Assassin's Creed Odyssey's monthly content updates continue in February with the previously announced New Game+ mode and a new storyline.

New Game+ is available February 26 for players who've beaten the main storyline, allowing them to restart the game while retaining all of their progression, including skills, gear, resources, and ship upgrades. In a development diary, Ubisoft confirmed that the mode will allow players to switch characters. If you played as Kassandra for your first expedition through Greece, all of your progression will carry over to Alexios if you choose to switch in New Game+.

The content drop also includes A Brother's Seduction – a new quest line that puts players in the middle of a feud between two brothers in Corinthia who are grieving their father's passing. The new story content is free, and it'll be available to players once they reach Chapter five.

Darksiders III Meets Internal Expectations At THQ Nordic

Darksiders III Meets Internal Expectations At THQ Nordic

When THQ went down in flames in 2013, Darksiders was one of the flagship series famously scooped up by THQ Nordic (formerly Nordic Games). After five years of patiently waiting, fans were finally given a third entry in the franchise that was always intended to have several sequels.

The game was released to seemingly little fanfare last year – despite deserving more – but according to THQ Nordic's interim report covering the calendar year 2018, Darksiders III "has performed within management’s range of expectations and has recouped all investments made in development and marketing during the quarter."

This bodes well for anyone who was hopeful the series would continue. With Fury's introduction in Darksiders III, that leaves only one horseman of the apocalypse left for a potential fourth game, Strife. Hopefully fans won't have to wait another five years for that game.

PSA: Paladins' Latest Update Brings Cross-Play, Progression To All Platforms Except PS4 Today

Following through on an announcement made late last year (albeit a little late), the latest update to Paladins, Hi-Rez Studio's take on the class-based multiplayer without battle royale elements, will let players play with anyone on another console and carry their progress over on any platform, except for PlayStation 4.

The "End Times" update, along with adding a number of skins, features, and balance updates, makes the cross-play dream come true for those not playing on Sony's platform. Anyone playing on Xbox One, Switch, and/or PC will be part of the same matchmaking pool in quickplay, though players can opt-out of playing with people on other platforms. Ranked will matchmake players based on their input method of either mouse-and-keyboard or controller, with Xbox One and PC players having the option to play with either. All progress will now carry over across platforms by linking their Hi-Rez account to their platforms of choice.

Of course, the reason the update doesn't include the PS4 version is likely because of Sony allegedly denying the feature to some developers, though Sony itself says it's ready to offer the option to anyone who asks. For its part, Hi-Rez says they "are technically ready to support" cross-play and progression "on other platforms as the opportunity arises."

Here's A Handy Map Showing Where To Find Good Loot In Apex Legends

Here's A Handy Map Showing Where To Find Good Loot In Apex Legends

Of the many things Apex Legends does to build on the battle royale genre, the ability to have one person choose where the whole squad drops is a major boon for coordination. But when you're Jumpmaster, it can be tough to choose where to drop, as every area of the King's Canyon is tweaked to dispense better or worse gear. It can be a lot to remember, which is where a color-coded map comes in handy.

Apexmap.io offers an at-a-glance view of the entire map, with areas color coded based on the rarity of their loot. Purple areas offer high-tier loot, blue mid-tier loot, and gray low-tier loot. The drop rate isn't 100-percent consistent, though, which is why the map also includes the percentage chance of that tier of loot dropping at that particular location. So while the Cascades and Water Treatment areas are both marked as "High Tier Loot" locations, Water Treatment has a much higher chance of doling out better gear, so if the dropship happens to run through both, you're better off going there (though more people may drop there, too. Decisions, decisions...).

You can also filter the map a bit to show where the respawn beacons and Pathfinder radars are to plan out your route, though the in-game map shows these as well. Overall, it's a pretty hand way to learn Apex Legends' map, so if you're having trouble being Jumpmaster, this is a good place to start.
