Ubisoft Planning Up To Four AAA Titles Before March 2020

Ubisoft Planning Up To Four AAA Titles Before March 2020

During a financial earnings call today, Ubisoft confirmed that the company has three to four more AAA games to release between April 2019 and March 2020. This means games in the same budget area as titles like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Far Cry 5, or The Crew.

Ubisoft wouldn't comment on what those games are, but it should be pretty easy to at least narrow down what those games are not. The Division 2 releases before the end of the fiscal year and thus would not be counted among the games releasing in the next fiscal year and obviously it's a little too soon for The Division 3. The publisher has confirmed that Assassin's Creed will be skipping 2019 as they focus on providing updates and content for Odyssey in the interim. With Far Cry: New Dawn releasing this month, another Far Cry isn't out of the question, but would buck the trend of releases in the series. Coincidentally, you can find our review for Far Cry: New Dawn right here.

Anthem Conviction Is A Live-Action Trailer From The Director Of Elysium

Anthem Conviction Is A Live-Action Trailer From The Director Of Elysium

In a collaboration with Academy Award-nominated director Neill Blomkamp, BioWare released Anthem Conviction this morning, a live-action short film that reads better as a live-action trailer.

The YouTube video's description says that Anthem Conviction is set "decades before the events of the game." However, the video doesn't offer much in the way of a story, but it features some cool special effects, produced by Blomkamp's Oats Studios. According to EA, Blomkamp, who directed films like District 9, Elysium, and Chappie, founded the studio in 2017 as a platform to practice creating visual effects and to create experimental short films.

Anthem launches February 22 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. You can check out the official launch trailer here, or discover Anthem's endgame offerings here.

Hollow Knight DLC Campaign Transformed Into Full Blown Sequel

While Hollow Knight got loads of free DLC, Team Cherry had been working throughout development on a larger expansion of paid DLC starring Hollow Knight's Hornet. A few days ago, the developers indicated there would be news on the DLC expansion on Valentine's Day, which most assumed to be a release date or new trailer. Instead, Team Cherry announced that the DLC has expanded massively in scope and will instead be a full blown sequel to Hollow Knight.

Dubbed Hollow Knight: Silksong, the new game features a new world, 150 new enemies, a new town, new bosses, and new quests. You can check out the trailer for the game below.

Two of Team Cherry's three developers talk in this video about the decision to expand the game.

Big Dead Cells Update And Switch Performance Fix Is Out Now

Big Dead Cells Update And Switch Performance Fix Is Out Now

Dead Cells is great, but last year's action rogue-like received a wave of criticism for its performance on the Nintendo Switch. A recent update claims to have fixed those problems and added several great new features.

The patch released today for all consoles and includes a new game mode that allows players to customize their runs. For example, players now have the ability to unlock and re-lock items, enable special gameplay adjustments, and change other rules of play.

Another bonus is that Motion Twin has removed Dead Cell's “mob auto-scaling” mechanic so each level now has a fixed difficulty. The amount of health that players have on higher difficulties also been re-balanced so players at higher levels will have more HP.

Catherine: Full Body Gets September Release Date

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, Catherine: Full Body, the remastered version of the 2011 cult-classic, got a release date. It will be released on September 3, and it will come with plenty of new content for returning fans.

In addition to improved visuals, Full Body will have over twice as many puzzles as the original and a Safety Mode that allows players to skip any if they get stuck or just want to see the story play out. The Full Body version of the game will also include an entirely new character, Rin, to make the story just a bit more complicated.

Atlus is also releasing a Heart's Desire collector's edition of the game for $79.99, which comes housed in a box modeled after the game's puzzling towers. This edition also include a steelbook case, art book, the game soundtrack, and a sheep plush.

LEGO Hidden Side AR App Allows Kids To Hunt Ghosts

LEGO Hidden Side AR App Allows Kids To Hunt Ghosts

LEGO has announced an AR app for their playsets that allows players to hunt for ghosts. Well, not real ghosts, LEGO ghosts, which I assume are built as ghosts and aren't LEGO men who died.

The app works in conjunction with several "haunted" LEGO sets and lets players scan over the set with their phones camera to find the ghosts hidden in their LEGO sets. You do more than just find and exorcise ghosts, you can work through puzzles and solve mysteries.

Presumably there's no ill effects to not catching all the ghosts, but if the walls start bleeding or books start flying off the shelves, you might want to take another pass at it.

Where's Our Crackdown 3 Review?

Where's Our Crackdown 3 Review?

Crackdown 3 is out tomorrow, and reviews are starting to hit online. Ours won't be among them, however, since I haven't had the opportunity to play the game's Wrecking Zone multiplayer on live servers. That's not to say I haven't formed an opinion on what I have played of the campaign mode.

First, the good news: Controlling the Agent is great, and it captures a large part of what made the original game so enjoyable. I've had a lot of fun completing various parkour challenges and collecting the orbs scattered throughout New Providence.

Unfortunately, the rest of the campaign hews far too closely to the original. If you loved that game and haven't spent much time with other open-world titles, it might be easy to forgive its lack of innovation. I play a lot of sandbox games, and Crackdown 3's stubborn adherence to gameplay systems from 12 years ago make the campaign feel stale overall.

Kratos, God of War Slice Through Competition At 22nd Annual DICE Awards

Kratos, God of War Slice Through Competition At 22nd Annual DICE Awards

Sony's commitment to interactive storytelling and polished single-player experiences paid off in a big way during the 22nd annual DICE awards. In a year packed with memorable titles that will resonate in the industry for years to come, Game of the Year award winner God of War dominated the ceremony, racking up a whopping nine total awards. Sony added another honor to its trophy case when Spider-Man took home the accolade for Outstanding Achievement in Animation.

The only other multi-award winner of the evening was the indie darling Celeste, which took home the Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game and Action Game of the Year honors. The biggest surprise of the night was the lack of awards for Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption II, which somehow only took home one trophy.

You can see the full list of award winners below:
