PSA: Tomorrow Is The Last Day To Grab Shadow Complex For Free On PC

about X hours ago from

Chair Entertainment has extended the offer to get the PC version of Shadow Complex Remastered free through January 10. Originally the game was supposed to be free until the end of 2015, but the developer extended it a few more days into the new year. The remastered edition of the game is also coming to PS4 and Xbox One sometime later this year.

Shadow Complex, a 2.5D Metroid-style game that  is generally considered to be one of the best of Xbox Live's downloadable games, casts the player as a man infiltrating an underground military base in the Olympic Mountains in order to save his girlfriend and the world (no pressure). Despite a setup that might sound ho-hum, Shadow Complex is a fun, engaging game that's more than worth the time it takes to play it.

Weekend Warrior – Starting The Year Off Right

about X hours ago from

After the first week back in the office since the holiday break, we're all excited for a weekend where we can play old games and some of the other big titles we missed from 2015. What about you? Leave your weekend plans in the comments below.

Brian Shea (@BrianPShea) – I’ve been sucked back into the Witcher 3. You’ll likely never hear from me again.

Tim Turi (@timturi) – I’m in a weird place right now. With last year in the rearview mirror, I’m catching up on a game I should’ve played a long time ago: EarthBound. I’m digging the sense of humor, comfort food-like battle system, and quirky soundtrack. I also hope to dive back into Fallout 4 and continue playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with my girlfriend!

Diablo Creator David Brevik Steps Down As CEO Of Marvel Heroes Studio Gazillion

about X hours ago from

David Brevik, who is often credited as one of the key minds behind Blizzard’s Diablo has announced his departure from his most recent post. He recently stepped down as CEO of Marvel Heroes studio Gazillion Entertainment, a position he held since 2011.

Brevik announced the news this week in a statement on the Marvel Heroes forums.  “As CEO, I spent most of my time running the company,” he writes. “I played the game a lot, talked about the game a lot and added lots of feedback and new ideas, but that is a very different job than being a Creative Director. After doing this for several years, I really want to get back to developing games and programming. I got into this industry to make games and I miss the day-to-day creation process.”

He mentions that his next endeavor will be as part of an indie team. The company he leaves behind continues to improve its Marvel Comics-inspired, free-to-play action-RPG.

Game Developers Choice Award Nominations Announced, Rocket League Up For Game Of The Year

With the Game Developers Conference (GDC) coming up in March, the group responsible for its annual awards has announced this year’s nominations. Metal Gear Solid V and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt lead the pack with for nods each.

The Game of the Year field is filled with all the AAA games you might imagine. There is one dark horse, though.

Psyonix’s unlikely cars-meet-soccer game Rocket League rounds out the field with a decidedly different ethos. It goes up against Fallout 4, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Metal Gear Solid V, and Bloodborne.

Report: Half-Life 'Sole Writer' Marc Laidlaw Has Departed Valve

Half-Life fans are eager to grab onto any piece of information that might hint at the future of the series. The latest tidbit involves Marc Laidlaw, the “sole writer” behind Half-Life and Half-Life 2. He has reportedly departed Valve, according to information surfaced via an alleged email exchange with fan “TeddyWolfHLFan,” who posted images.

The pictures of the email correspondence have been redacted to exclude personal information (like email addresses), so until Valve confirms, we are taking this with a grain of salt. We’ve, of course, asked Valve, but Gamasutra is reporting that it has confirmed the news.

If accurate, this would mark the end of Laidlaw’s 18-year tenure at Valve. In the emails, he suggests that he’s departing to work on self-directed projects. Laidlaw has published a number of novels and short stories.

One-Of-A-Kind Star Wars Toy Hits eBay For $150,000

Called the "rarest and greatest Holy Grail action figure in the world" by eBay seller RareStarWarsToys, this packaged, rocket-firing Boba Fett action figure is one-of-a-kind. It never made it to production, and this very item was only seen once at a 1979 toy fair.

To add it to your collection, you'll have to fork out at least $150,000. No one has bid on the item yet, and chances are no one will for this price, but it is THE prized collectible in Star Wars action figure circles. This particular item was just featured on the January 6 episode of History Channel's Pawn Stars.

What would you rather spend your money on? College? A house? A fast car? A Boba Fett toy? You can bid on the auction here.

Jenga Can Be Played Using Just Cause 3's Crazy Physics

about X hours ago from

Jenga, the classic block-removing game that always ends with massive amounts of destruction, can be played in Just Cause 3, a game that specializes in blowing things up. This version of Jenga is played with giant, multi-ton cargo containers. Rico's handy grappling hook, which can latch onto and pull items, is used effectively to pull the containers off of the tower. A helicopter brings the removed pieces to the top of the tower.

YouTube user Team Crush says that this game of Jenga took a long time to assemble, but as you'll soon see, it works surprisingly well once he gets the hang of it. This isn’t a mod, and it can be done in any version of the game. We wouldn’t be surprised if some intrepid gamer automates it as a PC add-on, though.
