Destiny Matchmaking Update To Address Lag Issues In Iron Banner This Week

about X hours ago from

Bungie has announced that Destiny's Crucible will be receiving some tweaks to the way its matchmaking works. The first update is set to hit on Wednesday in Iron Banner.

The studio says it has struggled to find the right balance between skill and connection quality when matching players against each other. With the new update, more emphasis will be placed on connection quality in order to combat lag issues. The Destiny team does want to reassure players that it will still be using skill levels to ensure that the most competitive matches are happening.

Iron Banner Rift starts on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PST. The matchmaking update will go live 24 hours later at 10 a.m. PST on Wednesday. Bungie says the 24 hour period between the two events will allow the team to analyze two different sets of data to compare performance. Bungie says that if all goes well with this deployment of the new settings, they will be applied to more matchmaking modes in the future.

Reader Discussion: Do Multiple Delays On A Game Discourage You?

about X hours ago from

When a game is delayed, it's typically a good thing in the end. It usually means that the team isn't happy with releasing a mediocre product and would rather extend the development cycle by a certain amount of time in order to get it right. When a game sees too many delays, however, it can point toward turbulence.

Today saw two last-minute delays for anticipated games. Mighty No. 9, the Keiji Inafune action title, and Civilization Revolution 2 Plus, the Vita port of the mobile strategy title, were both delayed today. Mighty No. 9 was set to come out in two weeks, but Civilization Revolution 2 Plus was scheduled to hit the Vita tomorrow, cutting it extremely close. No release date has been given for either title, but these titles have both been the victim of multiple delays.

What does it say to you when a game is delayed more than just a couple of times? Have you ever given up on a game or been discouraged because it was delayed too many times? At what point do you really start feeling down on the game's prospects? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

about X hours ago from

DICE and EA are teasing something related to Star Wars Battlefront for tomorrow, and it has something to do with the cold.

Prepare for a cold front coming through #StarWarsBattlefront tomorrow... pic.twitter.com/smg6c7Ll1I

Hoth is the easiest conclusion to jump to, but we've already seen plenty of the frozen planet in Battlefront. Maybe they're referring to Darth Vader's heart pre-Return of the Jedi? Or maybe it has something to do with The Force Awakens' Starkiller base? Whatever the case, be it new content, an event, or something different, we'll learn more tomorrow.

about X hours ago from

At this point, the only people that haven’t acknowledged that a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is coming is published Activision. Screenshots and achievements have been out in the wild for weeks. At least developer Platinum Games is having some fun with it.

The developer tweeted a not so subtle gif promising an “official leak” on January 26. The tweet carries a hashtag with the obvious TMNT abbreviation and a shot of a pile of pizzas with a sai stuck in them.

Destiny’s Biggest Fans Are Embracing Their Saltiness

about X hours ago from

Ask any Destiny fan where you can find the best conversation about the game, and chances are you’ll hear the same thing repeatedly. The Destiny Subreddit, a bastion of Bungie diehards, has a new unofficial name, and it hints at growing discontent among a typically loyal community.

Whether you are searching via Google or find your way directly to the subreddit, the group’s weariness is apparent. Instead of appearing as “Destiny” or “Destiny the Game,” the Subreddit is labeled as “Rahool’s Salt Emporium.”

For those outside of Destiny’s immense gravitational pull, Rahool is the name of an NPC known for performing his programmed function like a master troll. Also simply known as “The Cryptarch,” Rahool decodes mysterious items gathered in the field. Especially early in the game’s life, he was notorious for delivering underwhelming goods to gear-hungry Guardians.

about X hours ago from

The release schedule is sleepy in this last week of January. Never fear though, as a couple of games might pull you out of your backlog.

This week sees the end of Xbox timed exclusivity for Rise of the Tomb Raider, at least in part. Crystal Dynamics’ follow-up to the 2013 reboot arrives on PC this week.

Additionally, Tt Games brings together Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Lego Marvel’s Avengers. Thekla’s The Witness will bend your mind, and Final Fantasy returns to 3DS.
