Reader Discussion: What's The Hardest Puzzle You've Ever Solved In A Game?

Reader Discussion: What's The Hardest Puzzle You've Ever Solved In A Game?

I'm playing through The Witness right now. I'm really bad at The Witness. I do have little moments of triumphant though, where I finally click together the pieces in my mind and solve a puzzle that's been giving me trouble for an hour. It's a brief, fleeting sense of victory quickly swallowed up by the realization that i have hundreds of puzzles to go.

Let's talk about puzzles in games. What are some of the hardest ones you've solved? The ones that forced you to beat your head against a block for hours until the solution popped in your brain? For me, it's the babel fish puzzle from the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy text adventure (yes, that's a thing that exists). The babel fish puzzle isn't really that different from any other weird puzzle in early adventure games except if you don't solve the puzzle the game becomes unwinnable. Yup. Finding this out when you're a nine year old kid suckssssssss. Eventually I got through it without a guide...on my fourth attempt...with my dad's help (still counts).

What about you all? What video game puzzles have given you the hardest time?

Street Fighter V Trailer Gives Extended Look At Game Modes

A new trailer for Street Fighter V offers a detailed look at the modes available in the game. These include: tutorial, character story mode, survival, training, network battle, and CFN (Capcom Fighters Network).

Most of these  are pretty self-explanatory but the trailer breaks them down, showcasing footage from each mode. Capcom Fighters Network essentially functions as a social network within SFV itself, letting you watch battles and search for rivals in the game. You can watch the trailer here:

The maps included are Rust Place, Azure Mountain, and Coral Complex--all familiar locations to anyone who's played through the game's singleplayer mode. Quiet will be a unique character, one of several characters that a random player is given access to at the beginning of each match that have special abilities and weapons.

EA Explains Why Battlefront Is Unlikely To Have The Force Awakens DLC

about X hours ago from

In December, the Twitter account for Star Wars Battlefront revealed it was improbable that the game would receive any DLC that was focused on the new film, The Force Awakens. Looks we like we just got a confirmation and answer as to why that's the case from EA itself.

In a recent earnings call, EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen reiterated that there was likely no Episode VII DLC coming to Battlefront and took some time to explain why:

“You can’t make a game in ’Star Wars’ that violates the canon of ‘Star Wars...meaning, you can’t take something from the future and bring it back into the past unless it’s a reference.”

Rumor: New Ghostbusters Game In The Works

A recent report indicates that Activision is hard at work on preparing a new full-fledged Ghostbusters game. According to a story in Retail Merchandiser,  Mark Caplan, senior vice president of Sony’s Global Consumer Products, has been pleased with the enthusiasm around the franchise ever since the 2009 video game (and the recent toy line), and there is eagerness to continue to grow the brand.

The article goes on to state that in addition to the Ghostbusters-themed Lego Dimensions set, Activision is currently working on a dedicated game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and that it would release alongside the upcoming movie. That movie is currently planned for release on July 15, 2016.

We’ve reached out to Activision for comment about the rumor, and we’ll update if we hear more about the potential release.
