Ubisoft Confirms No New Assassin’s Creed This Year, Watch Dogs Coming By March 2017

about X hours ago from

Ubisoft has confirmed reports that the main branch of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is taking a break this year. A note from the publisher reveals that the decision goes back to the feedback received from the troubled launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity.

“This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise,” the company says. “As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.”

In January, rumors circulated indicating that the series would skip 2016. Reports also indicated that the next installment would take us to ancient Egypt.

Four New Xbox One Backward Compatible Games Available, Red Dead Not Included

Four new games have joined Microsoft’s backward compatible roster. If you were counting on Red Dead Redemption, Halo Wars, or any of the other titles part of this weekend’s snafu though, you’re out of luck.

We know that Alan Wake will eventually be coming, but that’s not available yet either. However, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (a pre-purchase bonus for Quantum Break) did make the list.

Also available are the original Lego Batman, Sam & Max Beyond Time & Space, and Trials HD. Microsoft will continue to roll out games as they are available, instead of waiting for monthly drops.

about X hours ago from

Need for Speed is hitting the PC streets this spring, months after it debuted on the home consoles last holiday season.

Naturally, the game's performance is above and beyond that on the consoles, with a higher framerate and 4K resolution (assuming you have the monitor to run it). The game also includes the option for manual transmission (which will also be hitting the PS4 and Xbox One at some point), steering wheel support (from Logitech, Thrustmaster, and Fanatec), and the updates that have already improved the console versions.

Need for Speed on PC comes out March 15, but if you're an EA Origin Access member you can start playing on March 10.

Buy Quantum Break To Remedy Your Need For Free Alan Wake

One of Microsoft’s biggest releases this spring is getting just a bit larger. The Xbox.com Quantum Break product page indicates that there are opportunities for two additional games bundled in.

Remedy is dishing out Alan Wake for anyone that purchases Quantum Break digitally. It will come with the excellent The Signal and The Writer add-ons. It’s not yet clear if retail copies will offer this bonus.

Those that pre-purchase will also receive Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, originally released as an Xbox Live Arcade game. Both of these are headed for the backward compatibility library and will be playable on Xbox One.

XCOM’s Double Vinyl Soundtrack Now Available For Preorder

Iam8bit opened up pre-orders for vinyl versions of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2's soundtracks today. Let’s be honest, horrible things have happened to us in XCOM 2. Hopefully this vinyl collection doesn’t conjure up too many traumatic memories.

This double vinyl set is a collaboration between iam8bit, 2K, and Firaxis, and carries an impressive list of bullet points that would make any audiophile drool. The work of composers Michael McCann, Roland Rizzo, and Tim Wynn has been mastered specifically for the tractor-beam blue vinyl.

The wrapping that packages the two 180-gram heavyweight vinyl records is designed by Filip Hodas, and features both Sectoid and human skulls. The sturdy physical collectible is also topped off with the inclusion of digital versions of the soundtracks.
